Emblems

I finally got around to painting my emblems. Sorry for the horrible pictures. I'll try to take some better ones in the day time.

One with less flash.

I actually have them on the car now, but the pictures didn't turn out alright.

Some cheap Auto Zone black spraypaint, but I used a nice lacquer clearcoat to seal them. They didn't turn out too bad considering that I had to strip them back down as I had originally painted them purple. I ended up not liking the way they looked. I'll try for some better pictures tomorrow.

Anyone else ever just black out the recessed parts? I did mine with beltline blackout tape.

That is awesome! Anyone got a couple extra inches of blackout tape? I don't wanna buy a whole roll!

Actually, I had hand painted the recessed parts grey. It looked really good, but then I decided to make it all black. I like the vinyl on chrome idea. It lloks good, but unfortunately for me, I'm trying to get rid of shiny silver on mine.

I am with you on that. All I have left is the headlight rings, door handles and my exhaust tip. Too bad for me that my chrome is trying to make a comeback. I just noticed yesterday that the black MINI logo on my hood emblem is gone and now it is just a shiny chrome disc with wings...it sucks! Maybe it is a sign that the emblems need to be shaved off? Hmmm.........

I hear you, I wish I had the money to have mine shaved. I really don't see why BMW put holes there anyway. It's not like the pegs on the emblem actually snap in and hold the emblem in place. It seems like they don't want you to shave them. I need the headlight rings done. I tried to remove mine, but the tabs started to break, so I just left them......for now.

Sorry to hear about your emblem. You could fill that section in with a resin, paint it black. Have some vinyl "MINI" letters made. Stick them on, then clear coat over them to seal them in.

I haven't forgotten. She's been in the garage since I took those pictures. I'm hoping to drive her to work on Thursday, so I will be able to get some better shots in better light.

Here's a pic of my front emblem w/ blackout tape furnished by slvrmni03:

I started working on the back emblem but got frustrated with my X-acto skills. I would cut a piece and then end up having to trim it ten gazillion times. So I'm going to take a break for a while . slvrmni03, do you have any tips on the best way to cut the pieces? I just took measurements and did it that way.

I cut the pieces longer than needed and trimmed them to fit. I marked the back of the tape at 5/32" and cut it from the backside using a ruler and x-acto knife. I tried to mimic the angle inside of the recessed area around the logo as best I could, test fitted and trimmed as necessary. Then I pressed the tape in, moving from the logo to the wingtips using a toothpick cut to a taper. The last step was to trim the ends off by running an x-acto along the sides.

Yours looks good!!
