Vinyl Dash

So i was bored and my dash is already messed up. I cant find a replacement so I did this.

Cost me about $16.00 in materials and took me about 5 hours. Turned out decent.

The Vinyl is just some automotive grade vinyl that I bought from a local stereo shop that does sub boxes. I made did the job myself. You need about 1 yard of vinyl. The tools I used were hot glue gun, 3M spray glue, exacto knifes, heat gun, and a squeegy. I spray glued the dash placed the vinyl over the dash, trimmed around it, worked the vinyl around the dash, hot glued the seams and corners, used the heat gun to stretch the vinyl cover the twisty areas and the air vents. Its pretty simple once you get the hang of it. Cost me less than 20 bucks in materials. Not bad since the JCW leather dash is 800 or more. Doesnt look as nice, but for 20 bucks cant beat it haha

That actually looks pretty sharp. Let us know how it does over time and after a summer's worth of heat. Nice work and great thinking out of the box!

Thanks everyone. Hopefully i dont have it on too long. I think it looks alright, but leather just isnt my cup of tea. I want to get a custom painted British Racing Green Dash. I think that would be pretty cool. I dont believe the vinyl will hold up that well in high temps.

I was considering custom painting my dash. I wouldn't have to pay labor, so only the cost of materials. I may do it...

How did you attach the vinyl to the dash?? I thought about using 3m 90 spray glue and and a blow dryer to warm the vinyl so I would be able to streach it better. I bet the ceter panel around the speedo was a pain.
Looks great!!!

I didnt have a before shot. It just just a silver dash that I had sanded, primed and painted. However the paint job turned out badly. So I resanded it and used jasco to remove all the dirt off it. It was basically down to the ABS plastic in the dash when I did it.

I used a lot of 3m spray glue and a hot glue gun on the corners. I used a high temp heat gun. The center panel wasnt really a pain the air vents were the worst. They just didnt wanna stay. I used a lot of hot glue to make sure they wouldnt bubble.

If any of you have a Jo Anne's fabric near you, they have all types of vinyl including marine vinyl. You can get it in all kinds of colors. I'm sure some other fabric shops have this stuff too.

Yep many stores carry it. Just dont buy vinyl that is too too plastic. Also it must be thin, anything on the ticker side and your dash will not fit.
