Auto up module install

Installed module today. Took longer than the 15 minutes it said -almost a half hour. instruction are vague. Photos from the manufactures sight were a real help.
Works great though.

Yeah, I don't understand what they mean when they say the module can "control other circuits" bsides the windows... Can someone explain what this means exactly and how it does this? Thanks!

It has some other options - it can also auto-on your fog lamps when your headlamps come on, and it can open your garage door And there might be one more thing, I forget.

Matt, to me it's like voodoo magic, but it does work. If you buy one with track mode you can turn off that blasted ASC or DSC if your car is so equipped. You might want to check out GBMINI's web site for info on the voodoo magic

MCAW Basic...

I've been using the Basic MCAW for about 5 months now... I wouldn't want to do without it .

I have to agree the instructions were a little vague. Of couse, they made more sense once you go all the way through it! The biggest hassle for me was the release of the connector on the back of the toggle panel. Once you get the hang of that, it is really pretty easy.

I ended up doing the install twice. My first install didn't work as the circuit was defective. Turns out I had one of the first version 2 products, and they had to be re-programmed at the manufacturer (software bug?). But putting in the replacement circuit literally took me 5 minutes tops...

Highly recommended mod!

I installed Ian's about a week and a half ago, and now I could kick myself for not doing it sooner. When I drive up to the gate on base in the morning to flash my i.d., driving off and hitting the button one time for the windows to go up is nice. And let's not get on that traction control disable function......nice !!!!

It took me 30 minutes to install, but I removed my downtubes and pulled the toggle panel out.

You sure thats true?

the battery connector you see in the pic is for the door opener
A special version of the MINI circuit can be provided with a built-in 9V supply and a 9V battery connector to simplify connection to your 9V battery powered garage door opener

Caution there are 2 types mine only works when you lock the doors from the key fob. Most of you are talking about the one that operates the windows when you want to close them from the inside.

There is no battery on mine. What you saw was the auto-up with garage door opener. Just like Rally said.

Hey All -

I'm new to NAM but not new to my MINI. This Feb will be 2 years. I just joined a local motoring club a few months ago, so I'm becoming more active with group motoring, MINI message boards, mods, etc.

Question relating to this mod, the auto-up. I purchased the MCAW toggle kit from OutMotoring.com. I received it but I can't figure out how to get to the access panel because I had factory auxiliary gauges installed on my car a while back.

I don't want to lose those gauges, but is there anyone that could give me an idea how to disconnect/remove those temporarily so I could install auto-up, and then reconnect the gauges?

All advice is very much appreciated!
Thanks!
Tom

You're in for a treat, romtoss.
I've installed the auto-up in two different MINIs with the Aux gauges. The gauge pack is attached to the console, so it's almost impossible to get out of the way, and the wires were short as well. I ended up just taking off the downtubes and the toggle rack and installing that way.

IMO everyone should have this! It's a no brainer and it's cheap! I have the MCAW basic from Outmotoring, watched their install video and done in like 10 mins. AS said above the hardest part was getting the stock clip undone, I opted for the option2 = two toggles for up as it's then a conscious thing as more of a concern for unaware passengers hitting the up once then sticking their arm out the window and yeeooow my poor window motor! This way they have to ask how to auto up and I can warn them.

Hmm, I was afraid it would not be easy. The regular install looks easy enough to do. I'm afraid I don't know how to do what you're describing, however. I should've bought this BEFORE getting the aux gauges installed.

Is removing the downtubes difficult? I'm a rookie, but at least willing to learn.

It's not really difficult, just a PIA. I would DEFINITELY have suggested the auto-up first.
See instructions here.
Note these instructions are for an '02-'04. If you have an '05 plus, it's even more fun, as you have to remove the console to get the downtubes out.
