So I Crashed! Ugh!

I got in a car accident today heading Eastbound on the I-10 towards Tucson. I took my eye off the road for like 2 seconds to look at an accident on the side of the road, a beetle that had rolled into a bar ditch, and when I looked up I saw brake lights.....I slammed my brakes.....hit the guy at about 30mph or so. He was in a 1997 Nissan Frontier and all that happened was I bent his bumper a little bit. Well me...quite worse. You can see in the pics. now I am planning on doing a carbon fiber hood instead of the norm and a carbon fiber ram air scoop along with some custom stripes. Im trying to make a good thing out of this if its even possible. Anyways, Im sad

Sorry to hear it :( At least you are okay, try to put it aside and have a good Thanksgiving. The CF bonnet should be cool - gonna do it painted with the CF showing through the stripes?

Damn that sucks. Atleast no one was hurt.

I haven't seen any mini's with a Carbon Fiber hood so can't wait to see yours.

Yea with the bonnet and scoop I will do vipers and have my body guy paint an indi blue strip down the middle of the CF scoop so it just looks perfect! Im going to probably do like 7" vipers with a 1/2" pinstripe in CF as well

That sucks :( Looks like pretty much all of the damage was body work though, so it could be worse! CF hood is a great plan, can't wait to see it!

Bummer, Same thing happened to me years ago. Except i was checking out a very pretty young lady walking her dog. Cheer up there is light at the end of the tunnel. My car wound up much better after it was fixed. Just like your planning on doing to your baby.

Pick up a hood straight from ViS...They are actually cheaper. And we could go pick up mine at the same time!

Very sad but glad you are OK and are making the best of it. Accidents on the I-10 are TOO close to home for me! Like a few blocks away!

Scandune: Hell yea! Isn't that going to look slick! I am trying to find out how much a normal hood is compared to a carbon fiber to figure out the differences I'll have to pay for the CF one. Another thing is, they have to replace my $320 painted M7 Exreme Scoop and I believe the ViZ hood is solid so I'll get an extra 320 there...that should cover it. It would be good if the scoop was removable though...so if I ever go DFIC I can use that scoop. I'm sure it will all work out, Im also getting a windshield out of it..haha...the wreck cracked my window...well it was already there but it sure helped Another thing is about that wheel vibration I posted about a while back, well the accident obviously caused that as well

1QKMNIS, I feel your pain. Been there, still not back in my MINI, but the body shop says beginning of December. I made pretty much the same mistake you did - found something else to think about for a second. It is SO easy to do that and the consequences can be so disastrous!

You got my sympathy, man. I hope your car gets fixed up right. Here's my sad story https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=83091https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=83091

Assured Clear Distance - minor misdemeanor - fine of $150 and Court costs.

Just to add insult to injury.

Hope you're back on the road soon, with the carbon fiber bonnet that you desire.

Not to be a kill-joy but if you're planning on slipping a few things in on your insurance company, posting it on a public forum might not be the best idea... Just incase your adjuster happens to do some checking...

Actually my ticket says "Speed not R&P to avoid collision" with R&P meaning Right and Prudent I believe. And about the vibration, it was very minimal, only at like a certain speed and now you can REALLY feel it at all speeds but you still bring up a good point .

Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad you are safe and OK.
Airbags go off?

Could be worse, the driver in back of you could have hit you too.

Hope your proposed repairs go well.
Keep your eyes
On the road (my son is 16 and just learning to drive)

FYI: Since you quoted his post . . if he goes and edits his comments, you still keep his original post (unless you manually edit what you quoted). So in a sense, you are helping and still hurting the OP

I was very surprised that 0 airbags deployed. I thought for sure they would have went off but when they didnt I was also kind of relieved.....I mean I still had to drive home and it would have been a pain with the airbag in my face

Well if you want to know where to take her... go to Elwood Body Works... they are in scottsdale... I used to do alot of work with them... they painted the Stoopid mobile car AND Nebraska's.... along with about 4 other cars Tuls built....some where in accidents... and they do TOP notch work... Talk to Don... he's the owner.... and owns a MINI:D..... tell him Chris and Emily sent you if you decide to go there...

I thought about that after I posted it, but since anything you put online is there forever, even if you edit it, I figured the damage was already done. Google and other sites cache and index, so there will always be a copy somewhere on some server. That's the hard lesson kids are learning about MySpace now when they go for their first job interview and the HR dept. shows them a picture of them doing body-shots off underage girls and smoking weed while in college
