Installed Dynamat today. Here some pix

Today I put Dynamat in the Mini. I put it in the rear door, under the battery, boot, under the rear seat, speakers, and the front doors. It made a huge imporvment in sound, stereo bass, and the all three door feel solid when closing them. It took about 2 hours to do eveything, at cost about $200 in material.

Nice work! Do you notice a road/exhaust noise reduction? I'm seriously considering this.

I put b-quiet (dynamat type material) in the hatch, boot floor, rear interior, doors, and on the floor. Then I also covered the hidden back side of the front wheel well liners and coating the plastic partition in the engine compartment (brake line side, not the engine side).

Doing all that definitely helped knock down the road noise. One area that should not be neglected is the backside of the wheel well liners (the area behind the A-panel, accessed by partially removing the liner).

Yes, you can. See the third photo in the first post for what it looks like.

For more places to put viscoelastic sound deadening material look at pages 4 through 7 here https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...4&ppuser=13976

So Dave, when are you going to show those photos of the backside of the wheel well liners? I'm pretty sure you have a camera.

Nice job. How do you get the door panels off. I'm always worried about breaking something while pulling them off.

The doors are super easy to take off. Just make sure you take the torx screw behind the round white reflector. There are a total of 4 of them. Two short ones and two long ones. Then use your mussle and pull. I start at the top near the rearview mirror.

I wanted to put Dynamat on the back of the door skin (behind the window) but then I thought I wouldn't be able to have dentless door remvaol done.

The car is 25% quieter from road and my loud exhaust. I love the way the door sound when they close, it reminds me of a heavy car like my MB E55.

Mario,

You can still have paintless dent removal done after installing the Dynamat. I've worked with this material since it's been on the market. The one thing to keep in mind is it does add weight to the car. Depending on the type used it can add a LOT of weight to the car. The original was a tar-based material that would literally add about 20-30 pounds per door if done right. The newew materials are a synthetic stuff that weighs considerably less.

I used the b-quiet extreme throughout my hatch as well, and inside my doors.

need to do my rear hatch under the plastic yet.

really helped with road noise/exhaust drone.

Can Dynamat or b-quiet be removed later on?

Do you have to stick it on for it to work, or can it just be laid into place?

...just asking, in case I want to quiet down the exhaust noise from inside the car, but later on, want to hear it.

For viscoelastic sound deadening material to work as it was designed it must adhere and conform completely to the surface it’s applied. If applied correctly the surface would have been clean & degreased to make the best bond possible. The material can be removed but it requires a scraper, acetone, a great deal of effort, and considerable time so you must be committed to your decision before applying it.

good to know - many of us here obsess about reducing weight What is the relative weight of the new materials, and how much would one have to use & in what areas to achieve some reduction in road noise and some improvement in stereo sound - i.e. an improvement but not going nuts

I put about 30lbs worth of Dynamat but I took off 35lbs with removing the rear seats. I also saved about 35lbs buy getting new wheels and ditching the runflats. So My car is stll 30lbs under stock and is more solid, with less noise and a better sounding HK stereo. Also raising my HP helped out to, I went from 140whp to 208whp

I bought mine at Fry's Electronic for $119.00 per box (I bought two) I used one and half boxes. I want to use the rest to do the underneath of the dashboard, it seems to make a lot of noises. I think it is just the nature of the car.

I like the idea, and I used old-generation Dynamat in my Nissan Pathfinder years ago to make stereo speakers sound better, but it is kind of funny - I've spent $$$ for 10.5 lb. forged wheels, stainless catback exhaust (which I love the sound of), etc. - many others install cold-air kits that increase the intake sound, and now we're talking about more $$$$ to make the car quieter & add weight - - - not that I might not do it. . .

My next 2 planned mods are a pulley and some type of exhaust. I love to hear the car sometimes, and sometimes I just want to listen to some tunes. I'm thinking the Dynamat may be a good addition as well. Maybe the pulley will override the weight of the Dynamat?
We just had a Fry's open up near here, so this may be a good excuse to go check it out.

I used that in my last car. After I put on the magnaflow it made the v6 drone on the highway(sounded great the rest of the time). The biggest problem was not the drone but the fact my stereo was over powered and I couldnt hear the subs! A layer of B-Quiet took care of most of the resonance.
