What did you use to combat the inevitable scratches and wear that comes from everyday use. Thanks for the comment regarding the newer MINI's. Mine's on order, and I'm doing some "presearch" and buying the accessories in advance, hoping it will make the time go faster. The handles, and the downtubes seem to be issues a lot of people talk about.
the o5-06 cars do not seem to have the issue in this area the earlier ones did. mine has 28k in jus t ver a year, plenty of use--not one mark on these items. I have 2 customers we have fitted the moss leather covers onto with 03 S cars, and they both were badly scratched. these covers fit well and were an inexpensive, classy solution-so-anyone with an early car with the scratched door pull problem, these fix it nicely!!
It may not be as much of an issue on the newer 05 & 06 MINIs... but some of us still wish that a version of this was available for the new design, because we would love to get rid of the silver look!
Why would the scratch problem be less in an 05 or an 06? Aren't they all the same painted plastic?
Paint on plastic can be very involved. Many of the paint systems require a base coat and a protective top coat. If the mixture and/or application isn't right, the durability will not be effective enough. Perhaps they tuned the paint recipie for the later models. Just a guess as I've had to deal with metallic paints on plastic for my company. It's royal pain to get it right but looks awsome.
