hi fellow NAM members

im considering retrofitting the 05+/facelift tailights on to my 04, and from my understanding, the tailights connector (the wire?) has a different plug. i believe the facelift one is 4 plugs or sth like that, which is 1 more than the 04 due to the reverse light location. and i'm wondering who would i proceed to doing this mod?

am i going to get the connector from the dealer? where does the wire of the connector start wiring? how would i relocate or keep the location of the reverse light?

any help or comment regarding this would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys/girls !

I'd think you'd need to isolate the wires that lead to the reverse lights (built into the lamps themselves on 05 and 06 lights) and then splice in the wires leading to your current back-up light in the center of the rear bumper. From that point, you'd have the option of keeping the center light as a second backup unit or you could swap it out for the extra brake light MOD I've heard of.

Obviously, if the plugs are differenty on the '05-'06 seried lights, the best and cleanest solution would be to direct wire the harness from your '04 lights into the replacement units. Shouldn't be too difficult - just be sure to find out form the manufacturer which wires are the positive and ground leads for each lamp, then cross-reference that scematic with tbhe one in the Mini service manual for the '04 to see which wire is which on that harness.

 

i guess asking the dealer about a possible wire unit will be great, cause i'm pretty sure i will need that for the retrofit. i better sort that out 1st and then move from there
