Interior/Exterior I Want to Make My Car Green.
I Want to Make My Car Green.
Like... a metallic spring green, but a cooler tone (not so yellow-y). I saw a green Z3 this weekend that was pretty close to what I want, and everyone was referring to it as "pistachio green", which is fairly accurate. I am completely, utterly, entirely obsessed by this idea at the moment, but my question is:
I was going to have to have my car resprayed in the next year or 2 anyway (rock chips, dings that have been poorly filled, etc.), but would it be any more involved to actually change the color?
To be completely honest, I have a whole Ollie-modification plan... it involves the paint, a roof graphic, some bonnet stripes and a very, very pale color of turquoise, but that's all I'll say

Color change is BIG
To correctly change the color of any car means repainting not just the outside, but also the door sills, the door frames, and engine bay. If you want a specific color it is worth it, but the cost will be much more than repaint.

Color change isnt that big of a deal, unless your doing it yourself.
Ive done a few, and they arent fun, but it isnt bad if you find a good shop to do it and dont mind paying for it.
Expect to pay AT LEAST $5,000 + supplies for a color change.

You probably could get away with out painting the jambs or engine bay, but its still a repaint wether is just a clear pearl or a clear metallic.
Still, be prepared to pay at least a few grand, unless you want a Maaco paint job.

While I tend to be a stickler for paint jobs, to me almost nothing looks worse than to open up the bonnet of a MINI and see the original paint in the engine bay, or everytime you open your boot, and see the old color around the edges. Even worse is seeing that parts weren't removed and instead masked and you see masking tape marks all over the paint. I think Rick's estimate for $5K is a bt low for a full repaint and acceptable quality.

I'm talking straight labor, no supplies. Supplies can range anywhere from $500 to well over $4k for paint and any other supplies.
We had a customer come in and spend more on paint than on the labor!!!
I think anywhere from $5-15k out-the-door is about the ballpark your looking into.
And remember, when your talking paint work, you get what you pay for.
