Interior/Exterior Headliner Clock Power
I have found that it only carries 10V. Not enough to power a Garmin GPS unit that I have. I wanted to place the unit in place of the clock with a new homemade oval base.
So, I ran a 12V from the fuse area.
I tapped the negative into the clock and now the clock won't save the time. It powers up, but resets 0:00. Looks like I am going to have to tap into a negative somewhere also that is 12V.
Any hardwire'ers out there?
If anyone has tried this please reply.

(wouldn't a wiring diagram be nice right about now?? ... even the TIS doesn't have it ...)
personally, it scares me: the whole idea on a 'body computer' ... and not being able to plug in a different switch bank without haveing to 'program' it .... the Electrics are a bit too much of a Black Hole ...

Ok,
I just checked my power at the clock as I attached my Passport 8500 to clock power. You have three wires to the clock. The red and brown striped wire has 12.54 volts to it all the time key off or on. You may be reading the other power wire not sure.
But I have 12.54 volts and the radar detector works fine........

Got it figured out this weekend. I had blown a fuse.
One wire is 12 1/2V all the time (blown) and the other powers it up with the key.
The one on the key is the one I tried and for some reason (even showing 12V) will not run the GPS. The one hot all the time does.
So, we are good to go. I wanted the wire to be on only with KEY ON. But for some reason will not power it.
The one hot all the time works ON or OFF altho when off only has around 10 Volts.
Engine running has 12.5 V....
So, there you go?
