My first impression is...I like it...but...I wish someone would take the dive and create a wing with the proper plan view to "Fit" the curvature of the Mini's backlite...IMDO

I really like the fact that this wing uses the original mounting points. I'm all about reversible mods. And drilling holes in my (or someone else's) MINI sends shudders down my spine. My personal preference is for the factory wing, but that one looks like a nice option. I agree that $625 is more than I'd ever spend on something like that, but it appears that quality CF is expensive.
I'm waiting for you to start selling the exhaust tips that were on those 2 cars that were recently shown.

That IS a good point - I much prefer reversable MODs as well, so much so that I really won't generally consider ones that require drilling or permanent changes.

A bit too much for my tastes, although I'm sure that the wing will appeal to others for just that reason.

Well you asked

Its good it uses the OEM holes

On the other side ...
  • Way to big in perspective with the car ... unless you have emperical evidence to actual downforce produce in pounds. For example, the Exige wing is supposed to produce somethin like 120 pounds of downforce at speed and the Exige is stickier around the track than the Elise mostly because of the wing.
  • The silly cartoon and advertising on the sides of the wing got to go. If you want to advertise the manufacturer, then you add a sticker, but dont want one forced on me. The advertising alone would stop me from buying it, not the price.

In general the APR stickers are decals that come in the box and you can put on yourself. I would guess (hope?) that these are the same

Constructive crititism is great...unconstructive crititism is unproductive. It is easy for people to slam something when they do not understand the amount of hard work to get a product out. BTW: CF is very expensive right now...it's in short supply!!

Some may not like the wing...and some will...but all in all....Fireball Tim has contributed to the MINI community. We want to continue to have innovative and creative designs so let's not discourage the people that are out there taking the effort/risk and making that happen.

And since my background and main stable is film, it's about telling a story. Not all will get it or even want to. But it is interesting how we all walk out of a hundred million dollar film and trash it. Even I do it sometimes without realizing the work that went into making it and the many people involved at trying too do thier best.

But what's important is to realize that what's gone into making something is always a lot of work. Months, sometimes years. Not to compare this wing to a huge film, but the item as well as the website elements took many hours and stand for a reason. And not for all necessarily to understand.

I'm eager to see the response too thee real thing on MTTS. Thanks to everyone and keep 'em comin.'
Hi FBT,

I have a saying I coined about 20 years ago... "it is much easier to critique than create" - Bob Bakert 86'

still remains true

I agree with what you said, bar10girl re: innovation. Kudos to anyone that takes the risk to make cool new stuff for our cars. However, he DID ask what people thought, so really, I'd think that any feedback from people not only telling him that they wouldn't use or purchase it but also what specifically is driving that decision would be valuable (or, at least, I'd hope so). I'm a product manager in my workaday job, and I know that the fastest way to drive yourself into the ground is to sink huge resources into a product that has tons of "gee whiz!" ultra-cool features, but which misses the mark on what the potential CUSTOMER wants and needs. As such, there's really no such thing as "unconstructive" criticism - it'a all data. What the porduct designer DOES with that data is where the rubber meets the road, if you will.

Most of MY comments, by contrast, were probably more useful to a marketing person (which is the other hat a product manager usually has to wear).

SpiderX: Yes, it's true that creation is hard, but not everything that's created has equal value. Some things are, simply put, a Very Bad Idea (pet rocks, spray-on-hair, etc.) Not saying that this is anywhere NEAR that class, but...

My short and (hopefully concise) opinion/observation-

Fireball's Shockwave is an excellent example of what kind of car this type of wing is for- namely, the high-visual-impact/show car variety. but not necessarily for a "daily driver". FWIW...

Everything everone has said is great... as imagoX said... it's all data...

one thing that is hard to gauge from the pics is the size of the wing... in person it's not really that big... and it's contoured to the roof line in a way that really compliments the car...

I have heard from numerous people now that they didn't like it when they saw the pics... thought it was too big...ricey... etc Then after having seen it in person loved it...

all in all it's one thing...if you love it... great! if you hate it... great! lol... it's all what's for you...

There goes my hair......and pet

For my car/taste I like the JCW wing.....I agree this is showcar aggressive but nothing I have seen from FBT is subtle....more in your face and although it is not for me I like it.

TULS! glad to see your post.

I think the wing looks great on the Shockwave, its an aggressive wing on an aggressive looking car. Having said that, it would probably be a bit out of place on a stockish looking car like mine.

Kudos to the FBT team for pushing the envelope......can't wait to see the products that are coming down the shoot!

I don't agree with the criticism about Tim's website. I think it is absolutely perfect for the customer base he's after. Most of the products are not to my taste but I am not his target customer because I prefer traditional looks. I’ve met Tim several times and have seen the quality of his work and it’s top notch. Tim is doing something different and I applaud him for it regardless of whether or not it is to my personal taste.

i've been wanting the wing that will be on the GP but wouldn't be surprised if it would be difficult to get and much more expensive...to me this is the next best thing

Tim or Tuls....by any chance will you be bringing one to sell when you go to englishtown?

Maybe that makes me a snob, but I highly doubt that you'll ever hear anyone say "Well, I was intrigued by that site's products, but in the end I decided to not buy it beause they came across as so competent and professional on their web site". It just ain't ever gonna happen.

I'd also hire a real web designer and lose the black web site with the visually annoying multicolored text thing - it was really hot back in 1996 but now it just looks amateur. That's fine if I'm thinking of ordering $50 in novelty products but it's not a place I'd be comfortable sending several HUNDRED dollars to. Again - maybe I'm a snob, but you do only have one chance to make a good impression, and you have to ask yourself what lingering impression a customer is going to have after a 30 second scan of your web site. Mine was "this stuff is for kids".

I know you wanted comments on the PRODUCT, but honestly, I never got that far... I got on the site, browsed for a few minutes and then left because it seemed like a site for guys that like to slap neon all over their POS Honda (tagged as an Accura), sorry.

Thanks for all the replies and input! Like tuls said the wing doesnt look nearly as big in person as it does in the pix. And its HOT ! And for those who know me I am pretty conservative when it comes to stuff

As for the question about the decals they are removable if you dont want them.

You can pre order one if you want by either Pm'ing one of us or calling the shop 310-921-6000

The wing is top notch material and craftmanship and like stated before is adjustable and mounts using the factory holes.

Keep that feedback coming the only way we can know what you want is if you tell us.

To my recollection, didn't the Pet Rock made $75million dollars?
