WolfenCopter

did you ever figure out how to get to th Boot Hinge Bolt under the headliner?

My 03 has a bent hinge and I'm looking for a short cut to get to the hinge bolt under the headliner to put a new hinge in place? Any and all advice is appreciated.

Well, I was thinking about mounting a gps antenna today, but after reading what I'd have to go through to get the headliner down I'm rather put off. geez!

It really isn't that big a deal. It took me about 1.5 hrs working by myself to get everything out.

i wouldn't mind seeing how the ceiling is removed myself as my
ceiling is slightly drooping down on the driver side where it meets
the glass. wondering if a braket or something broke.

there are no brackets...the liner is a molded piece of cardboard so if its drooping id say you have a windshield or sunroof leak if you have one.

Is it just the cloth or the entire headliner? The cloth on mine is drooping, gotta love BMW for using sub-par adhesives on ALL their cars...

It's HANGING on the passenger side front (where the headliner meets the windshield) and it's almost undone on the driver side as well. I've noticed minor drooping in several different spots around the headliner... There's pics a couple of pages back in the complete interior makeover thread...

I swapped headliners and only removed the items that are attached to the roof. You need to pull the weatherstripping out of the way and carefully pull the pillars out enough to get it out from underneath. The rest of the tasks were unneeded.

I have had the headliner out of the cooper 3 times now. I've gotten it down to taking me about 20 minutes. There is ZERO need to remove your front seats. A gigantic waste of time. The headliner itself is also coated in almost a thin fiberglass layer. Its really weird i have never seen one like it in all the years i have been restoring cars. It is quite durable i removed it out of the rear hatch no problem.

If you have ever seen coopers in florida sagging headliner is a huge issue. I usally see 2-3 a week due to the weak glue they used from the factory. Hancock fabrics along with most other fabric stores carry a sprayable headliner adhesive, it holds up to the heat down here x10 better than the factory glue.

I found that C.M.I. Automotive has one of the best selections of headliner material in their SURCOLOR line. If your looking for a nice upgrade check out the Flat-Knit headliner. Has a very nice look to it, looks much more expensive and holds up better. they only offer 4 colors though.

This is digging deep, being a 2006 post, and kind of off-topic, but the EXTERIOR A-Pillars cannot be removed without breaking them. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread...
