Also it might help to put it in second gear and with both hand under the ****, just pull up and watch out - you may pop yourself in the eye.

yeppers, BMW gearknobs are an interesting bunch.

Yank up with both hands firmly on the ****, yank up HARD

You may want to lean over it, with the **** near your chest, so you get better leverage, plus don't risk socking yourself in the face (A bruised chest is better than a black eye!)

Your virgin experience will be one you never forget!

Find a new one that has a set-screw to make it stay put.

Then the misinterpretation sets in:
"You were pulling on your ****? Um...I don't wanna know!"

Im getting a Whalen ****. They are awsome. here are some pics of them

http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...ghlight=whalen

It really makes you think it has had a short shifter put in, because of its weight.

why did they design it so you HAVE to use some other shift ****? (since it's screw-on, not BMW-style ) ...........maybe so it doesn't come off in your hand like mine does on a hard 2nd shift.....very embarrassing!

You should never twist a BMW or MINI shift ****; you will break the anti-rotation key in the ****, then it will be able to spin, even though it will still stay on the lever.

Is that what happened to yours?
