Do you have glass replacement on your insurance?? Our local dealer told us it was between $500 & $600 dollars to replace if we didnt go through our insurance.

I just called on a windsheild replacement from a company called Safelite. $240.00 and they'll do it at home or work, I'm still waiting for the dealer to call back, for a quote. They quoted me $500.00

Mine cracked and I got it replaced under warranty. It was a stress crack. If your crack did not start because of a rock chip, it should be covered if you still have 4yr/50k left.

Just what I was gonna say. You weren't going fast enough, or any one in front of you, so a rock couldn't have hit you. Well, unless some punk kid chucked one your way! It was probably a stress crack. I would try the dealer before you buy a new one. IMHO...

I just called a Dealer and they said that if there's no mark like you said they would replace it because it's a stress fracture and it would take a least 3 day to get the sheild and a day to put it on.

In the hope of getting away with charging you (or your insurance) rather than covering it under your warranty, they may perform the old "ballpoint pen test." The excuse would be something like "you probably had a small rock chip that weakened the glass but didn't cause a crack right away - it could have happened months ago, even years..." Then they run a ballpoint pen along the crack hoping it will catch in a divot - a "pre-existing" rock chip. Sorry, I'm one of those early model year owners who went through a few windshields, so now I always expect the worst.

Hope that they are better than that. In the end it still needs to be replace.

So perhaps it's different with this issue, but my next door neighbor owns a Pontiac dealership. He absolutely loves warranty work because he gets paid all the same and the customer is happy that they're taken care of. I can't really imagine why the dealer would want to avoid warranty work, but what do I know?

Because they have to justify the reason to BMW/MINI so that they get reimbursed for the work done.

I hope the windscreen replacement goes as planned

safelite auto glass is awesome! I had my windshield on my civic hatch replaced 2 years ago and I paid $125 with tax and they came to my house and replaced it in 25 minutes.

Safelite just finish about an hour ago and they did it in less than an hour, It looks good and it's guaranteed as long as I own the car, leaks and all total charge was $201.03 and they came to the house. Didn't want to mess with the dealer, they said a big MAYBE as long as there's nothing that indicates previous hits....pebbles,rocks.etc..

Has anybody's windsheild crack due to having the rear seat delete? Im been thinking since I took off the seat, the way the car takes the turns feel different,I keep thinking that my tires were low, but it wasnt and now I think that the crack windsheild was due to now having the rear seat that prevented the car to flex as much.
