Aero grille install help - SF Valley -
I plan on ordering the Aero Grille from Outmotoring.com but I am still abit unsure about the install for the lower grille. Curious to see if anyone around the SF Valley (Woodland Hills) can perhaps help me out or someone that has done it. Thank you all in advance.
its pretty straight forward, just look up on the online DIY for doing it, they will make sense when you have your bumper off. if you have a local mini dealer you can get the grill from them, no shipping cost.
instead of painting the underside of the middle grill i put black con-tact multipurpose decorative covering. it works great, and is much easier then painting it. also for grinding down the lower grill to fit in place use a grinding bit on a regular drill, i found that to be faster then using a dremel saw. you will also need to open up the tab holes on the bumper so the aero tabs can fit in. you will also need to grind down the air passage deally (can't remember what its called) so the grill can fit nicely in place. next tape the grill so it is flush as can be and centered on the bumper. use some RTV on the back of the tabs and let it sit for a 1/2 day or so. i'm sure i am missing something, but its easy to figure out what needs to be done when you have it all in front of you. The way i did this job makes it possible to revert to the original setup.
oh yeah, taking the top grill off is a bit of a pain, i hate those self taping nuts.
pictured below is the bit i used and some other stuff.
good luck.

the 2 long black lines on the part that sticks out is where i shaved the air passage thingy down so the grill fits more snug. the black that goes all the way across is just the con-tact

this is what it looks like when it is all con-tacted up.

this is the RTV on the tabs on the underside of the bumper.

I did it myself, no flaws, looks perfect, but like said it is fairly straight forward. I did not spray paint anything though and I still think it looks cool. Let me know if you need any additional support.
