Does anyone have the MINI Accessory, chrome exterior mirrors? (#51 16 0 140 086)

Mine just came in today and upon closer inspection, it looks like a direct replacement of part of the mirror housing. It has several plastic tabs thats supposed to snap into something. ( I'm just guessing because I haven't taken delivary of my MINI yet)

I think the MINI chrome housing is unlike the ones MINI Mania and RSpeed sells which are installed via adhesives.

If anyone bought the MINI chrome mirrors, could you please shed some light on the install. I am anxiously awaiting MINIhune and installing the chrome.

Mahalo in advance!

Chrome Exterior Mirror housings
Part # 51 16 0 140 086 $123.00

They are also the adhestive-on variety (not that there's anything wrong with that), to my knowledge. Looks great with body color roof, IMO

Cheers,
Ryan

Thanks, Ryan.
That's why I got the chrome mirrors. The black mirrors looked out of place with the VR/VR color combo.

The part is a direct replacement of the OEM black mirror cap.

I got them on wednesday, It was an easy install once I figured it out. What I did:

Took a plastic knife, squeezed it in the bottom of the mirrow housing and moved it sidways, pulling at the same time, at some point the outer cap of the mirror just flew off. Then i took the chrome mirror cap and first popped it in on the top, and then pushed the bottom in. You have to push the bottom of the cap UP then onto the mirror housing, otherwise it will not fit and will stick out on the bottom.

It looks AWESOME.

good luck!

When you say moved it "sideways", do you mean pull out and away from the door? (perpindicular from the door)

I'm just trying to visualize the procedure before my MINI arrives. Any snafu avoidance is my goal.

Thanks for the input, and if possible, some piccies of the MINI chrome on your MINI

Update

The new chrome mirrors were very easy to install as per Phobol

Now that the black mirror housing are off, I'll get them painted Velvet Red, just for grins

Here's the MINI direct replacement chrome mirror housing:

Miniac,

In addtion to your kewl name, the mirrors are great. Becaise of your pictures I'm on my way down to the dealer now to get a pair.

I also noticed that you have installed the chrome side vent. I just received mine in the mail yesterday. Are your "smooth" chrome throughout or a little "pebbly" on the inside rails? The outside of mine are very smooth, while the inside of the rails have sort of a slight orange peel look on close examination.

Got'm and put'm on.

Once you figure out how they come off, putting them on is easy.

First to take the old ones off. I noticed that the new chrome shells have a groove that goes ALMOST all the way around the edge of the shell. No groove exists on the inner edge (next to the door) lower and upper part of the new shell. (After removing the old piece I found that the new and old shell are identical). So, if you use insert a screwdrive on the inner part (I chose the lower) and twist you will successfully pop loose that part of the old shell without damaging the groove. This will also give you space to move the screwdrive further along the edge without damaging the groove on the old shell. You then move the screwdriver along the edge a slight bit and twist again. Continue doing this around the old shell until the shell comes off. You probably won't have to go completely around before it comes loose.
To put on the new one is duck soup. First insert the top goove of the new shell into the top edge of the mirror frame that is on the car. Then gently push the bottom part of the shell against the mirror frame and it will pop into place. Voila, chrome mirror shells installed.
Thanks, Phobol for the assistance. remember to study the new ones for the groove and you'll figure out how to remove the old shells. Also, I found it helpful to twist the whole mirror sideways to get at the inner part of the shell without damaging the paint on the car.

Sorry, I don't have a camera to take pictures. Maybe someday I will break down and purchase one. But, then again, I could apply the camera money towards some more chrome on the Mini

Aloha, ScooterMan!
I'm glad you were influenced to stand out more and "sparkle". What are you're MINI's color scheme? Those chrome mirrors adds a nice, subtle elegance to it.

Not true.......just the white repeaters. It was so bright and sunny that day, the pics showed a little too bright. I still have the black standard MC side vents. I'm still debating on the chrome side vents....not quite a chromaholic as you
Hang Loose!!!

Yes, it is true.
My name is ScooterMan and I'm a chromaholic.

The car is Pepper White with red interior. The PW gets washed out a little too much with all the black trim. Replacing black with chrome adds subtle touch to the car color. But, I tell my wife that I can go faster and reduce gas mileage because chrome has less wind resistance ops:
