Finally dropped on H&R coilovers!

Finally got the car on coilovers! I'm really happy I went with them instead of springs.

But!
I have a problem,I'm experiencing shaking/wobbling in 1st, 2nd and a little in 3rd between 2000-3500rpm, I have no clue why. I'm meeting a friend tomorrow that might now what is causing it. And I havn't gotten a wheel alignment yet, I was supposed to but my friend who installed it wanted me to put on winter rims because he was afraid to scratch my summer rims. I've asked if it might shake/wobble because I havn't gotten an alignment yet but they say it doesn't seem likely?

And I wanna drop it a little more , just a tad, but it's already damn loow.

I'd re-torque all of your lugs to 90 Lb-Ft. first of all. Oftentimes in the anticipation to get on the road, we forget the simple things.

Also by all means have both your alignment re-done and have your wheels balanced. When I put my H&R Coilovers on a couple of years ago, it too required an alignment to get everything exactly how I wanted it.

p.s. Great looking MINI.

wow...impressive! Can't help you on the wobbling, but that car is screaming for 10%-20% tint! That's one of the cleanest, best looking Minis I've seen.

But I'd never get black!

Looks good.

loosen and re-tighten all those lugs to 88 lb ft to start....

Make sure the struts are properly tightened again too...

perhaps wear & tear of the drive-train which is more noticable the lower you go? If re-tightning of the bolts & lug nuts and an alignment don't help try increasing the ride height and see if the problem goes away? I dunno, meb posted something similar recently...

NIce drop. I would drop the rear a little more to make the stance level. Clean ride.

88.5ft-lbs/120 n-m (newton-meters)

88-90 will be well within the measurement error of our torque wrenches.

fj0 - definitely check all the bolts loosened for the job. If you didn't rotate your tires, those are the culprits.

A bolt machine thing was used so they shouldn't be loose and we checked yesterday but I'll recheck again! Tires havn't changed, I'll get a wheel alignment soon hopefully.

And thanks guys! I will drop it a little lower.

How low are you? You should go down to like 1.75"-2" if you still want that look in your photoshops.... like they say, " if you ain't rubbin, you ain't low enough"

I recall an earlier thread experiencing similar symptoms. There was speculation that the wobble came from the half shafts having been broken in at a different angle range (stock). When the car was lowered, the range changed, giving excess play and a wobble.

Someone back me up, I can't find the thread again.

Not sure how low but I'm definitley low, I really notice a difference, not only in looks but when stepping in and out of the car.

I will drop it a little lower, but here's a better pic to see how low it is;

I'd love to hear more, anyone know anything?

I've heard many reports of a vibration on acceleration after dropping MINIs. I can find the thread later and post.

I had the same symptoms when I went to PSS9s, but they slowly went away. Is the vibration only under acceleration, or is it all the time?

When ya gotta reach up to scratch a snake's belly while sitting in your MCS, you've just about got it low enough.

Love those coilovers.

I appreciate the nice comments, thanks everybody!

I dropped it more and got an alignment today. My rear camber is over 2degrees.

Yeah, I need new front tires!

Useless pictures but you get it, I'll get some better ones when I have time.

have you solved the wobble issue? was it getting an alignment?

pics don't do it justice, I'm sure it looks killer.
Partly because of this thread, I've decided on H&R's as well, hopefully I can post up some pictures soon,
but definately looking very good!
