SRS Reset

I know it's been asked before but I cannot seem to find an answer here. So here goes.
Does anyone know (for certain i.e. has used it successfully) of a tool to reset the SRS (airbag) light?
Thanks

I think the only consistant answer at this point is the dealer, you'll have to let them in on your skeeming if you trip the light. Let us know if you find something though.

SRS can only be reset by the dealer. The dealer diagnostic tool is the only thing that can reset airbag lights

Many independent repair shops that service BMWs can also reset it. The tool is a small handheld computer.

I don't have technical details, but here is my story. I was rear-ended, and my seatbelt tensioner fired but not the airbags. It caused the SRS light to come on. The shop that repaired my car (Bay Bridge Motors of Oakland, CA) was unable to reset the light immediately. It took a few days for repair parts to arrive, and meanwhile I drove around with the SRS light on. Once they replaced the tensioner, I watched as they plugged in the diagnostic tool and reset the light. I don't know for certain, but I was under the impression that it was the same tool they would use to pull fault codes from the car.It makes sense to me that a shop should be able to make repairs and replace parts, and then reset faults without having to go back to the dealer.

Thanks for the info. Most of the tools shops tend to carry cost big $$$ but if we could get the name we'd at least know which companies have goten the info.

Threads like this remind me we need to take the idea of a fully capable tune-diagnostic interface more seriously.

Much can be had just by fiddling around w/ the computers
That's the beauty of modern vehicle electronics (or downfall depending on the person lol)

The Peake tool isn't supposed to work with the MINI. I emailed them to see if their BMW SRS reset tool would work on the MINI and they said no. Anyone got any more info?
BTW the reason my SRS light came on while I was installing the resistor for the seat airbag was because I had the seatbelt pretensioner unplugged. Didn't realize it was tied into the SRS system - DUHH.
Anyway I hadn't pulled my seat yet so took it back to the dealer who reset it - noting on the worksheet "seatbelt pre-tensioner connector loose - reseated and reset SRS light". No charge.
