Rear fog light?

Ok, I'm thoroughly confused. I've been trying to figure out exactly what set of lights or light the rear fog is. Is it the upper bulbs in the tail light assembly(pic) or the small light mounted center on the lower rear bumper(pic)? And which light(s) does modding the fog(s) into a brake light(s) make come on? I've gone through a bunch of threads and there are references to both light locations.

The pic for the rear fog option on miniusa.com is the lower center light. I'm assuming this is now the fog, but previously was the reverse lamp? And now the upper and lower bulbs on tail light assembly are both brake lights? or has the assembly layout changed since the pic I'm linking? So what is what on the 06's? If anyone has a shot of rear 06 lights in action it'd be appreciated.

I'm trying to figure out if I'll want to do the brake light mod, as tailgating seems to be a religion in FL, especailly if you own an old pickup with bald tires and no exhaust. I figure some extra brakes wouldn't hurt, especially if they are higher up on the vehicle than the standard brake lights.

MINI moved the rear foglight to the lower center.

The current taillight consist of Turn Signal, Brake and Reverse
Turn Signal is the upper one, middle is brake and the small white circle is reverse.

hopes that helps
and I'll try to take a picture of the rear foglight -brakelight mod from my 05 MCS

The first pic you posted is the 2002-2004 set up. The top portion of the tail light is the rear fogs. But some owners choose wire up the rear fogs so it functions as tail/brake lights.

The second pic you posted is the 2005 and up optional rear fog light. If you did not order it, you just get a black plastic plug. In the 2005 and up cars, the top portion is now the turn signal, the middle and main portion is the tail/brake light and the back up light now resides the in the lower corner of the light assembly.

Hope I didn't confuse you too much

If you look at www.myminiparts.com in the exterior section he carries all the brake light mods for all years and has pictures that show the difference. They are in Florida so a close place to get the parts for a good price.
