Speedometer Ring Removal

I want to paint my rings so I was wondering if anyone had removed the speedo ring? If so can you share some tips on how to do this? I know the vent rings twist off. Thought I heard that the speedo ring is glued on. If so is there a good way it be taken off with out breaking it?

I’ve done some searching but haven’t found much on this. The Bentley manual shows how to take off the entire center dash piece, this might be the only to do it and it shouldn’t be hard to do but someone may have found a better way.

Yes, the speedo trim ring is glued but only to a few tabs; you can scrape it off and remove the ring. I wouldn’t recommend removal because it adds a measure of security against squeaks. Follow the directions in the Bentley manual to remove the center trim piece. Once off, the air vents and fascia can be removed making masking easier. While the front piece is off place adhesive felt around the edge of the speedo lens to keep it from buzzing in cold weather. The air vents can use a little anti-squeak felt also.
