The gauges I am talking about are the new MINI aulixary gauges. They include a battery voltage and oil temp and they go below the toggle switches. I have MCS with Nav and therefore these two gauges are missing on mine. Any help will be apprietated.

Here is a pick of them

Just for info, doesn't matter if you have the Nav package or not you wouldn't have those two gauges. On the giant speedo you just get engine temp and fuel levle.

that brings up another question. I want to know when my car is warmed up so that I don't stress it when it is cool. I know that the oil will be colder than the engine temp but couldn't i use the oil temp to guess my engine temp.

Good Day,

I have not installed, however, I have ordered these and the nav. MCS is slated for end of April delivery....cost for these installed was $500 CDN.

Cheers,

rb905678, I guess that you live in Canada considering your price is in CDN. What is that in USD, around 300-350? I heard they have been availible in Europe and Canda but I am also trying to figure how much they cost in US and if they are out yet in the US. Thanks

I think they look pretty good, but shouldn't they be silver to match the tach and speedo?

I installed three gauges down there: a boost/vac gauge, an oil pressure gauge and a water temp gauge. I used the silver faced AutoMeter gauges that look like the Mini instruments.

I did it with a three gauge panel from Jeg's and the three Auto Meter gauges. The panel needed to be cut down, Under $200 but a few hours of installation. Boost line required drilling and tapping, water temp and oil pressure there are options, but at leat one more hole will need to be drilled and tapped. My company, Perfect Power Inc., will probably offer it as kit soon. Our website is under repair for a few weeks, but I will let everyone here know when something is available as a package.

The OEM Mini Gauge Set (p/n 82 94 0 148 956) can be purchased at any Mini dealer and is easy to install. The picture you see above is from a pre European accessory catalog and has the Euro toggle switch in the picture.

If you want to find out more about adding a Euro toggle panel, then go

Does the OEM guage set have only volt and oil temp? I have the Nav and would like an engine temp guage.

FLAMES, FLAMES, FLAMES. Well, I have looked into it cause it is so cool but I don't think it will work easily on the MINI. The reason is, you have to have the unburned gas and stuff leaving the exhuast but on all new cars there is a catalytic converter which catches all those thinks that burn. The basic system is put a spark plug in your exhaust and you got flames. To make it work for the MINI, I think, you would have to take out the catalytic converter or place a small fuel injector in the exhaust along with the spark plug. But it is still cool!

Here is one of the many flaming exhuast sites: www.gotflames.net

UPDATE: Went to Hank Aaron MINI today (Atlanta, Ga) and asked about the gauges and JCW and MINI RS. About the gauges, they are in the 2003 accessories catalog (with the pic I posted). They are $250 for parts and a whopping $255 for labor!

My dealer wanted $250 for the gauges. I did not like the look of them, they looked aftermarket and did not match the MINI.

Also, Voltometers are useless IMHO. They are supposed to tell you the condition of the battery, but the one car I had it in registered the usual when the battery was dead!

I do miss the oil pressure and ammeter (needle jumping back and forth!) gauges that my 1966 Austin Mini S had.

Unfortunately, there's no engine temp gauge with MCS + Navi. Soooo aggravating.

I am shocked that nothing else has come out to fit down there as a package. I would love to have just the oil temperature and the SC pressure down there.

I have the kit, just purchased it. Be aware that the gauges curretly supplied are not as shown with the chrome ring around them, but are almost stock VDO Vision series gauges with a black ring around them. You may or may not like that. The gauge lights have an orange boot that makes the illumination come close to matching that of the tach and speedo. The kit does not come with installation instructions, there is a sticker that tells the dealer to print them out from their CD and give the customer a copy. My dealer (Nick Alexander in LA) has so far been unable to find them. Right now they are hoping the next month's CD will have them,

Because the gauges are stock VDO Vision, they can be replaced with a gauge of your choosing, including oil pressure or SC pressure. Gauges are in the mid $30 US range from a variety of sources on the web.

Also be aware that the oil temperature sensor replaces the pan drain plug. Installing it requires that the oil be drained out. Also you may or may not be excited about having a relatively soft brass drain plug down there for your friendly service technicians to damge while changing the oil. Also, there is a wire that has to run down close to the ground, somewhat flapping in the breeze.

These are my gauges. Boost, oil pressure and water temp. They glow orange at night. Better pics tomorrow.

Perfpow,

Very nice setup!! Good job. Did you fabricate the panel yourself? Could you give some additional info on that? Also, do you have a shot that goes back a bit further? I'd like to see that setup in relation to the cup holders and the shift ****.

Thanks,

Albert

Hi Albert,
I'll post some more pictures later today. Right now the panel renders the cupholders useless. They were pretty useless before anyway, so part of this mod will include new cupholders slightly behind and outboard of the current ones. This will be a piece that plugs into the cupholders and has cupholders and a lighter socket as part of it. The gauge panel will come down to that piece and effectively hold it in place. A sun glasses case fits perfectly over the cupholders now, and that is what you see in the posted picture. My company, Perfect Power Inc., will sell this gauge panel and console mod very soon. We have several other unique Mini products that we are working on too. We've been here for 23 years, but our website is getting a serious makeover now so you can't learn much about me for another week or so!
