How do I remove the rear center console?

I am trying to install a factory armrest in my 06 MCS. I need to remove the rear center console (underneath the hand brake), but for the life of me I can't figure out how it comes out.

I pulled up the hand brake cover and have removed a screw from under there, as well as the screw in the bottom of the cup holder. The console won't budge. What am I missing? Do I need to pry something up? Or just use a LOT of force?

Here's a pic showing where the two screws that were removed are:

Don't know if you're installing the new sliding one, I found this official installation guide in Moss MINI, if you have not seen this, this may help. [ here ]

Yeah, I have those instructions.

But they don't explain how to get the console off. All it says is:

The following components must be removed first of all

Rear centre console 51 16 216
Rear centre console holder 51 16 218

I eventually got it, by just yanking up with brute force.

The technique after removing the visible screws is to pull outward on the sides. There are slotted tabs that slip under screw heads along the side. Try shifting the whole thing to the right to free the right side, then you can shift it left to free the left side. Or, if you can worm your fingers down the sides from the ebrake opening, flex the sides out from the inside.

The official instructions are great, but they start off telling you to remove the old cover without explaining how.

You should just have to pop out the sides and it should come right off. There are two tabs up in front I believe that have to be slid under the front cupholder console too. Check under the coin storage compartment for a screw too. I removed my factory armrest console and replaced it with the standard one on an '05 so they should be pretty similar. The factory armrest console took a lot more work to remove.

In a regular MINI (04) there is NO SCREW in the rear cup holder. Just the 6 plactic retainers that pop in straight down and the single screw at the rear/under of the hand brake booy

I figured it out........so easy once I saw the pic from Marquette MINI

In a regular MINI (04) there is NO SCREW in the rear cup holder. Just the 6 plactic retainers that pop in straight down and the single screw at the rear/under of the hand brake body
