Interior/Exterior Dirty Hatch
Dirty Hatch
OK, go easy on the new guy, I haven't figured out the search function yet.
My 06 MC, with factory spoiler, seems to collect dust and such on the rear window/hatch like a super magnet. Do any of the factory or aftermarket spoilers help reduce this problem? I'm thinking that a design like the S model spoiler, with the center air gap might be helpful, but like I said, I'm new.

I used to think the same thing about the S spoiler, based on experience with air dams on the back of SUVs. Unfortunately, the S spoiler actually seems to make it worse instead of better. If not worse, then certainly not any better. There used to be a big wide dealer installed spoiler - that I haven't seen anywhere for a long time, so I don't know if it is still available - but I always wondered if it would be any better.
Best thing I can say is use good wax, get a clay bar, and clean often!

This is a symptom of owning a hatchback vehicle. They all seem to do this and there is really nothing you can do to change it. Figure out how to live with it or clean it more regularly than you are used to. . . .

I have had many hatchbacks, including my current (and soon-to-be-traded) VW GTi. This is - as described already - an unfortunate reality for most hatchback cars, and those little factory hatch spoilers rarely do anything to help.
However, I might suggest that you treat the hatch glass with Rain-X. This will make it a somewhat slicker surface, which will allow less dirt to adhere and keep it cleaner longer. This is the same principle as keeping a well-waxed paint surface back there (gotta keep your Bum shiny
).
I have treated ALL the exterior glass (including side-view mirrors) on MANY of my cars over the years with great results. It will also help 'shake off' any dew that might collect on the windows overnight. Just by the simple vibration and wind of driving away in the morning, the dew will just fall off in large droplets. Finally, this will make the rear wiper more effective when you have to use it.

I know you can't use the rear mudflaps on the S, but do the front mudflaps help much with spray up the side of the car? I got my first taste of driving my Mini in wintery conditions last weekend, and everything below the belt-line was pretty grimy.
