Rear wiper removal solutions.

If you don’t ever plan to use that dust-collecting appendage on the rear of your Mini, it is easy to remove. As for the hole in the glass, you can pick-up a black plug at the hardware store, or purchase a cool badge at flagline.com

These stick on flags are thick and should stand up well to the weather.

Anyone else done this? I just took mine off today and I'm gonna head over to the hardware store soon here to see if I can find a plug.

Huh? I wouldn't be without it. The moment it starts raining the whole boot gets filthy!

The hole is just over 1". Lowe's Hardware had a plastic 1" plug that fits fine.

Maybe after removing the wiper you need those plastic tear-offs NASCAR uses. So instead of cleaning the glass you just pull off another layer and have a clean surface to use

Thanks............In SoCal I just don't think that I will ever use the rear wiper. It is just a dust collector as far as I am concerned.

Is it because you like to squirt the tailgaters?

I may as well have 0% tint in the back if I get rid of my rear wiper... it rains too much here in Seattle to be without one.

I do like the look without it though... any idea on the weight savings?

Ok, I took it one step further..I had a 5/32 hose fitting lying on my bench and was wondering if I could do anything with this....I took the black plastic cap out of my rear windshield, took a 5/32 drill bit, drilled a hole in the center..had to kinda wiggle the bit around cuz it didn't quite fit..anyway, I pushed one nub of the fitting through the plastic cap..went back to the rear of my car opened the hatch(boot is it?) took the screw out of my washer hose and fit the hose onto the fitting, replaced the cap back onto the window..went into drivers seat and hit rear window washer..

result..

Just want to say that I *love* this mod--the car looks so much cleaner from the rear, and now cleaning the rear window ( a regular act due to the wonderful aerodynamics of MINI dust collection) is E-Z! The how tos and discussions made it a simple mod, easily reversible, and low impact out here in the desert southwest.

thanks for the idea.

You should give up your triple digit speedometer. You'll never use that either!

I wouldn't even consider removing my rear wiper UNTIL you came up with this sick idea! Go figure only here at NAM would somebody come up w/ an idea to use the rear wiper hole. I love it!

You need to add a "back off sticker".

After looking at all those VW's in the Mini Talk forum, I had to do something to make my car look a little bit cleaner around the edges. And I was bored. Anyways, I took the rear wiper off and definitely wanted to go MSFIT's route and turn my car into a moving squirt gun. I am not sure which plug I want to use though. I got a 1" cap from Ace hardware, but its just a tad too small to fit snug in the hole. I also bought a rubber cork type plug and shaved it down to the appropriate size. It seals the hole but I think it looks a little tacky, so I might try and find a plastic plug. I am concerned about it filling out the hole and sealing up properly so no water leaks into that area. The rubber cork functions great as a squirt gun but I am not sure how the plastic plug will do. Anyone use any sealant around their cap to snug up the fit? I think I will go to Lowes and see if there 1" cap fits better. Thanks for the DIY instructions.

I did this last year but it does nothing to reduce dust and you really need the rear wiper at the Dragon so I put it back on...
