AeroKit / Wheel Arch clearance

I just picked up my new MINI Cooper S with an AeroKit install. Between the top of the front bumper and the wheel arch, on both sides, I'm able to slip anyone of my fingers into the gap between the two pieces.

Yet, on a MINI Cooper S with stock bumpers, the clearance is much smaller.

Should this be closer and can it be adjusted? Any tips/tricks appreciated.

I'll try and get a pick to post in the next day or so.

I think the gap is normal but watch the wheel arches because they keep warping on me. They get replaced for free but still its a pain.

John,
Do you mean here?

If so, yes there is an adjustment that can be made;
Inside both of the wheelwells are 2 bolts, one is an 8 mm the other a 10 (I think). They are in the front portion of the wheelwell and one runs vertical the other horizontal, the horizontal bolt holds the plastic spring clip that the vertical bolt goes in to. If you will loosen the horizontal bolt, you should have enough play in the plastic spring clip to make adjustments up and down. You might have to also loosen the torx bolts on the upper bumper cover mounts inside the engine compartment. They are located on either side of the radiator.

You shouldn't have to remove the wheels to reach the bolts, just use a deepwell 10mm, or turn the wheel to gain access.

Clear as mud, huh? Let me know if you need any more help . I'll take some pictures:smile:
Good luck

I'm at work right now and don't have access to my pics, but I'll try and explain it some more. First off did you loosen the right bolt? I've had to play with both sides of mine after I took out a rodent on I-95 one night

The bumper cover is held on by 2 bolts on the wheelwells, 2 torx screws on the upper bumper lip (one each side of the radiator), 3 bolts across the underside and 2 screws also on the underside.

The 2 bolts in the wheelwell tie the bumper cover to the inner fender liner via a flexible plastic tab and allow for vertical alignment of the bumper cover.

Look at items 11 and 12 in the following picture. (Ok they didn't like that, sorry for the hotlink) The flexible tab is the piece that 11 & 12 are pointing to. Here is the url:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...64&hg=51&fg=80

Item 11 is the vertical bolt hole I mentioned in the post above, item 12 is the bolt location that need to be loosened to allow the bumper to move up and down. I was also able to move the bumper cover outward some to align the wheel spat with the bumper edge.

There is another way to move the bumper cover up, but it involves removing the bumper cover and adjusting the bumper carrier. Lots of trial and error there.

Go to this link, http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...46&hg=51&fg=15 and check out the pic. There are three #4's in the pic. The center one is where the adjustment is made (after all the other bolts are loosened). Inside hole #4 is a spacer with a off centered hole drilled through it and a bolt. Loosen the bolt and rotate the spacer, which in turn will move the bumper carrier and when installed, the bumper cover. Like I said lots of trial and error, obviously don't mount the cover to check the spacing, just let the clips lock into the tabs. It can be done, it's just not easy.

Any help?

That's exactly the spot. The MA took the car back around and the service technician said he adjusted it. I might just be paranoid...

I'll get some pics today and measure the gap...
