Split or Aspherical mirror

I've noticed a few posts about whether these might be available for the MINI ... and so far the answer has been "No". I've used these on a variety of my cars and loved 'em, so I kept digging. Over the past weekend I came up with part numbers and, as luck would have it, my brother was in the UK on business. He ordered one from a nearby dealer and will be delivering it to me over the coming weekend. I can't feel 100% confident that they're right until I see 'em and install 'em but for anyone who might be interested, I'll post again early next week.

I am planning to order these mirrors for my 2006 September build MCC: http://www.safetymirrorsonline.com/html/technology.htm. They do not list MINI on the website but you can send them a template and they will create a custom fit. I thought it would help for the limited rear visibility of the convertible. Does anyone here have experience with this product?

Blind spots are only a result of improper mirror adjustment.

Make sure it is not the UK only part. Otherwise the split one is on the passenger side.

Both Left and Right are offered. This (UK) dealer had a Right on hand, of course, so we ordered and received a Left.

My 2003 Passat has one on the drivers side and it should be a standard item. If one becomes available for the Mini, I'll be the first in line to buy. Too bad the available Passat sideview mirror is a different shape from the Mini.

Someone at Mini2 purchased the Multivex mirrors and posted pictures:
http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthrea...0&page=2&pp=22

I sent an e-mail to the company to ask if they already have mirror templates for MINI, and I received this reply:
Yes, we already carry Mini Cooper side view mirrors. Go to www.safetymirrorsonline.com, click on any "Buy Now" icon, and scroll to the bottom of the page. Type in # 24079LH as the Parts Number, select 'right side', 'left side' or 'both', and proceed from there. Your purchase comes with a money back guarantee if not completely satisfied.

One? ...for only $60 I'm thinking it might be worth getting both!

Before I order any though, I'm going to wait to hear a more comprehensive review after a longer drive time.

I think it's $60 for both. I just can not get excited about double sided sticky tape mirrors.. IMO good idea to mass market a product....

We could proably put together a group buy if they are any good. They do state they offer reduced prices for "fleet cars"

I really like the OEM.. they look really nice.. I would also like the light blue tint that reduces glare.. just like the ones pictured for the Passat above

Agree. I really miss the blue tinted side mirror glass I had on my '00 Jetta.

Count me as another one interested in the OEM version...

The more I think about this, the more I think I would prefer the "split" mirror like in that Passat picture. I think the curved mirror might be annoying.

I agree that the double-sided tape doesn't sound great.... and if you have the Cold Weather Package, I doubt the heated mirrors would work very well with these.

If part# 51-16-7-058-059 is what you meant to type, then you appear to be correct, as this is the catalog description: MIRROR GLAS HEATED CONVEX LEFT. (Didn't check price.) I don't see an unheated convex part for the left.

But is this just the "objects in mirror are closer than they appear" type mirror? I don't think I want that on the driver side. I might get used to it, but it would be a little strange.

For me personally, it is really the right side mirror I am most interested in, to help with the large blind spot and limited rear view of the convertible on that side. I would guess that the convex left mirror is meant as a passenger side mirror for a right side drive car. The parts diagram is here:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...72&hg=51&fg=10
Does anyone know how the OEM mirror is attached to its actuator? It may sound cheesy to add a Multivex with double-stick tape, but if the OEM mirror is only glued on anyway, then I'm okay that sticking on the Multivex is as about as good as if it were directly attached.

i would have to agree, in a car that small U' should have no blind spots unless Ur' cruzin' around like a retard, w/ur' seat reclined back to far! and leaning to either side to much --where U could only see the drivers head in the cabin.
plus if U have chili pack option ur heated mirrow's wont work, okay mayb a little but why want sumthing that works half-***. "just a thoght, not a sermon"

I think the Pass side is a convex style mirror already....I never seen a blind spot on that side ( you have both windows to see outta ) its mostly the driverside i thought which people are having issues seeing past the b-pilllar right next to ur head.

It snaps right onto the motor.

so ur' original mirrow comes off and new one snaps on??

that might work better for a Vert. (convertible) car too. 'rkw'.

Even for the hardtop, though, I find there is still a little spot just over my left shoulder - where the B-pillar is - that I must turn my head to be certain that I can see when doing a lane change. It may have something to do with my specific seat adjustment - not that it is abnormal - I'm just hypothesizing. Since owning the MINI, I have read about and looked at many diagrams about proper mirror adjustment (none of which do I believe are specifically applicable to the MINI because of it's shortness) and have tried numerous adjustments. The best I've found so far still leaves that little spot.

Regardless, assuming proper adjustment and no blind spots - I don't see how a mirror that gives you even MORE visibility is a bad thing.:shrugs:
