I love the meatball as can be seen here in this pic I took last year of my Cooper.
For all those interested in the static cling meatball that Madhatter here has posted, I have an article on it below. Some people have had problems with static cling decals coming off, but I've been through rain storms, 120 deg dry weather, and monthly washing of my car, and the day I removed it after 6 months, it took a lot of effort---felt like socks coming out of the dryer without the static free fabric softeners! I really feel how you install it is important.

Looks great to me.
The black number on white background makes reading the numbers very easy. White circle on a dark background is also very classy and traditional.
For those cars with a light body color a black outline to the white meatball helps. See the Herbie picture.
Magnetic numbers can scratch if there is grit or dirt under the magnet.
