Skid plates?

I don't think I've seen a mention of skid plates on this site in over a year. Are people still buying them and installing them? I'm just curious, because I have a Moss one sitting in the attic that I never installed on my 2003 Cooper. My blood still runs cold every time I see a plastic bag drifting in front of me, but I guess the risk/reward just doesn't add up for me. It's a lot of weight to add for protection that isn't used very often.

Did anyone ever offer a plastic one? Seems like a no-brainer that that would sell.

Um... I just did a search, and sort of answered my own question. Plenty of discussion; I've just missed it somehow. Sorry for the wasted bandwidth...

Hey, now you've got me interested -- (I'm in the same boat with skid plate still in the garage)...

What did you find out--or would you post which thread was helpful re: a plastic skid plate? Thanks!

I've found nothing at all. As far as I can tell, no one offers this product. Amazing, isn't it?

Hmmm...maybe too likely to crack with a hard blow? (but then, wouldn't you rather? )
