The good, the bad, and the ugly

Do the decals on the sunroof only... look good?
Do the decals on the sunroof only... look bad?
or do they simply look ugly?

I really am interested in opinions!

Imho...

The sunroof only decal looks pretty lame as compared to the entire roof graphic. In all actuality, again IMHO, the full roof graphics look great and when I've seen just the sunroof decals it reminds me of a cheap fix. There you go. Which graphic are you thinking of getting?

I think about getting a full flag, but I also like the idea of stripes from the bonnet over the roof and down the boot. What do you think?

I like seeing roof graphics extend all the way to the roof's edge. That's my general preference, though, fwiw.

With the checkerboard I think it is what ever you like. I have the checkerboard sunroof and like it, but some don't. If you go with a design like the Union Jack or US Flag then I would go full roof. That is the beauty of the MINI make it your own, there are few ways to make it look really bad.

How much more specific do you want me to be?
DO SUNROOF DECALS LOOK GOOD?
DO SUNROOF DECALS LOOK BAD?
DO SUNROOF DECALS LOOK UGLY?

...obvious questions that need no more clarification.

Thanks to all of you other people who understood my question and offered your opinions.

I think the point Ripley was trying to make is "which decals?". The way I read your original post, I expected to see pictures to go with the questions. Your restated questions make more sense.

My answer to the questions is "it depends".

It depends on the graphic and the roof color. What did you have in mind?

Well, I've got a CR/W with a sunroof, and a Cooperworks white sunroof decal, which makes my entire roof now look white. To me, it looks good.

Is that the kind of decal info you were looking for?

Don't take offense at my response. I'm trying to help!!

Bottom line...it depends upon the graphic, the color the car, the color of the top. Some are incredibly cool. Others are butt ugly.

So...what graphic are you talking about and what is the color of the car and the top?

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't understand the first post either. Guess some NAM folks are more perceptive because they figured it out. Depends on the graphic. Have you seen the sunroof decal on the MINI called Winston? That's stupifyin'!

For example: The checkered roof decal. Or the flag decal. I've seen them both as a full roof and as a moonroof only. Can't figure out if it looks good on the moonroof only. And then, does the decal covering the moonroof obliterate visibility? I haven't seen "Winston." What is it?

Usually, a decal over the sunroof glass is a perforated vinyl that you can see through (much like what they put on buses to wrap them in an advertisement).

In my opinion, sonroof only decals on white roofs are very challenging. I don't think the flag or checker board looks very good. Ther are some custom jobs that could work. On a black roof, the grey/silver union jack is cool. and it can be ordered perforated for visibility if you wish. I have a black roof with sunroof and have a big red "S" on the sunroof only. It's not perforated but that's fine with me. If your roof is car color, then it's a hole new ball game depending upon the color and what you want. It seems custom stuff works better than the traditional flags and checkers for sunroof only application. Have a chat with Ed at Cooper Flags. He's can provide ideas and get you something that will work for you.

I can't remember the name of the fellow who posts on NAM with the photo of his car Winston in the signature. His MINI has a roof decal of Winston Churchill. It's hilarious. Reminds me a bit of a famous WC Fields poster. If this were England (or Boston?) there might be enough narrow streets where people would look down and see Winston Churchill looking back up at them.

It may not be to everybody's liking, but sure is different. When MINI first began offering roof decals among the examples shown were Andy Warhol's Marilyn image and the Mona Lisa. Not sure if there were any takers. What were they thinking?
