Interior/Exterior Interior Popping 2005 MCSa
Interior Popping 2005 MCSa
I sometimes get a loud poping noise when I go down my driveway (3 miles per hour reversing and turning down a incline)...Somewhere from the inside of the car...I am guessing it has do do with the car not liking uneven surfaces....I don't know...(I do have a sun roof...will that cause frame weakness?)
Any one else have this problem?
Thanks,
Andy

And you're positive that it isn't one of the many "exhaust notes" that the MCS likes to fire out at low speeds?
What exactly does it sound like? (I realize how difficult it is to describe a sound...

I think the sun roof is making the sound
I saw another thread that someone modified the sunroof to stop a noise...but I am not sure that it is it. I will try to isolate it....it is pretty loud when it pops. Definately not engine noise..hmmm frustrating....especially in a car that is less than a month old!!
Mine pops too. I have had the car for 1-month on the 24th of July and I heard the sound from day 1. It sounds like someone pulled a suction cup off of the passenger side rear window. Does that match your popping?
I had that too..
I have an '04 MCS and have heard that loud POP. Sounds like it is in one of the roof supports in the back.. I thought that it was a combination my sway bar (21mm) set to the stiffest setting and turing sharply (at a slow speed) from my driveway slope to the steet (I was rolling forward).
I have since adjusted the sway bar to the middle setting and don't hear the sound that much anyway. I also enjoy the balance of the car in that setting
.
At one point I thought the sound was the frame "popping" over the sway bar mounting clamps - kind of a tight fit in there - but I did not see any signs of the metal rubbing on the parts.
Not sure if your situation is with the stock 17mm or larger sway bar... If you have the stock bar there is no adjustment - and my situation is a little different. But you are not alone on hearing that loud POP behind you...
The other thing to try - is do you hear it when you are by yourself or with a passenger in the car? The last time I remeber hearing it was when I had someone riding along...
Hope that helps - a little

Presumably this "popping" sound is not the ABS self-test "clunk" (sometimes coincident with the automatic door lock "clunk"). This usually occurs just above 10 mph (not slowly backing down the driveway).

dealer could not find it
I took it the the dealer yesterday and they could not find it....just to spite me it "poped" right as I was rolling out of the dealers driveway....
I am sure that it is not the radio b/c it was not even on. So I don't know....?
Sway bar? My car is stock so it could be the sway bar...but it seems like it is coming from the inside....
ABS clunk....not that

Mine does this as well. When I initially complained about this, I thought it had come from the rear right tire area. Service dept. found nothing, though. It does this usually when I am coming in/out of my driveway, but also on sharp turns from time to time. I don't think it's the sunroof, I would be able to hear it closer to my head if that was the case. I'm learning to live with it.
