Carpet mats are low quality. Suggestions?

I was at the MINI of Sterling (VA) today to test drive a CVT model just for the heck of it (I really wanted to test drive the steptronic MCS, but they didn't have any). Anyways, I grabbed the driver's floormat and inspected it. It's so cheap! What is with the budget foam backing? NUBS!! I need NUBS!!!

Any suggestions on higher quality mats for the same price as the OEM ones (around $100)???

Definitely consider getting the rubber floormats, G8RMNI! They are attractive, rugged, and very sporty! I love mine!

Go to MINIUSA's site and check them out in the "Build Your Own" sector.

Hope that helps!

I went rubber as well and love them, except I wonder if anyone has worn them out? On the carpet mats there is a mound below the accelerator pedal which I suppose is either to cushion the foot or provided added protection to the carpeting from excessive wear.

In that same area--you can see indentation and wear from my foot. Think I might buy another driver mat just to make it new again.

Well, knowing your spirited driving style, Richard, I'm not surprised that you have some wear and tear on your mat.

Mine is still in great shape!

Yet another vote for the rubber mats. Better than the carpet by far, and much easier to clean up, too.

Having had them, I'll not have anything else in the future.

Have OEM carpet mats

and I am disappointed how quickly the right leg heel area of the driver mat carpet gets worn. I did not know any different when I bought them. I have resorted to putting a piece of carpet scrap on top of the floor mat.

How crazy is that I have carpet protecting the carpet mat !!

I have seen OctaneGuy zip around and boy, his mats really help him move

Must be a 25 HP enhancement

Just noticed the other day that the pad on the driver's side of my carpet mats is worn through as well after a year and half of driving -- fortunately I was successful in getting the dealer to throw them in as part of the deal -> no way these are worth the ~ $90 (they look nice when new though).

I have Cocomats (www.cocomats.com) in my car, and they are of very high quality. Not cheap ($125ish, I think), but miles better than the insultingly overpriced OEM crap carpet, and from photos I've seen here, they stay clean-looking much better than the rubber mats. They come in lots of different colors, including combos with patterns. I have the black with red dots in my chili red car, and they look great, especially with the anthracite.

Oh, and they have NUBS.

Did you use univeral or custom fitment on the Cocomats?

I bought the custom ones fitted specially for the MINI. They fit perfectly, and they look great!

Looks like it is typical BMW quality though. Every BMW mat I have seen has the foam backing. They also seem to wear out very easily. When we used to detail them, there was always a worn spot on the drivers near the gas pedal. Even on the 7 series!!

I just put these in this week. Shiny!
It will take quite a bit to wear through them.
They are slippery when wet, so they will probably be relegated to show car duty.

well, my rubber mats have started to wear out and they dont come clean anymore. theres a nice stripe of discolored rubber where my heel comes from the brake to the clutch and back and the spot in front of the accelerator pedal is discolored.

i'm getting carpet soon, easier to clean!!!

Were you happy with the customer service you received? Did you have to wait a long time? I've been waiting a long time for the ones I ordered from them. Initially they said they'd send samples...I never received them (I'm wondering if they were ever sent). I've written 2 emails asking about my order...no response. I've called several times and have gotten an answering machine. Finally talked with someone who told me he would check on my order and would call me back at the end of the day... he never called me. I really hope they are worth waiting for.

I like the diamond plate ones I got off eBay. They cost around $75 and will probably never wear out. As long as I wear shoes with non-slip soles, I never worry about my feet sliding around.

I have the black OEM carpet mats. Although there is definately some wear on it on the driver's side near the pedals, it still looks great. I think the biggest part of the reason mine still look great it vacuuming weekly (or more when they get really dirty). I think it really prolongs the life of the mat. My 03 MCS has 25K plus on it. I am **** about keeping it clean, though.

I had great customer service. They sent sample materials promptly, and I got the mats within the amount of time they said (~ three weeks or so, I think, since they do make the mats to order).

Well, I certainly can't blame you for being upset. All I can say is that (1) yes, the mats are absolutely worth the money (much nicer than the OEM ones!), and (2) your customer service experience has been completely opposite of mine. Maybe they're busy, or just having a rough time for some reason.

I ordered a great rubber set with the S logo on the corner. Got all 5 mats for $80 on ebay.
