Steering Wheels

Hey All - I'm new here and don't have a Mini, yet. I've sat in two and can't really shift it well because my knee hits the steering wheel. So, that's kept me from buying one of these really cool cars!

I was thinking about modifying the steering wheel by removing the stock on and substituting a slightly smaller one - has anyone done that? Got pics or details?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Rob

Did you know it's a tilt wheel?

Up under the wheel is a manual adjustment. You pull it and it releases the wheel, then move it to where its comfortable.

Replacing the stock wheel would be a pain, with the airbag, stereo controls and cruise control controls on there (assuming you have MFSW). Removing the airbag would also be a safety/insurance issue.

Make sure you have the seat cranked all the way down, and the wheel tilted all the way up, before you start thinking seriously about such a drastic mod. If you still have problems, you must have some massive thighs.

Yeah, I think it might be more that the seat height was cranked up all the way more then the tilt wheel (though with the 2 together I can't see how you would not fit right unless you were Shaq size)

Right, besides the tilt wheel... the combinations of seart positions should make you comfortable without your legs hitting the wheel. Go sit in one again, with somebody who can show you the seat (and wheel) adjustments. Good luck!

I had that problem in every other car but Minis, BMWs, Mercedes, Audis. That's pretty much why I got the Mini.
