Is the tinted taillight package from MiniMadness just tint to be applied to the inside ot the stock lenses? If so has anyone made their own? What makes it worth $100 bucks if it is just film?

I have these on my car, so I'll weigh in here. It's not just any film. It's tinted Stone-Guard, the same stuff used for the clear bras. It's a thick material which makes application much easier than a thin film. You inevitablly have to pull it up and adjust it to get it to lay correctly, so with a thin material, it'd rip. Also, it's laser cut, so it has perfect edges and fits the contours of the taillights perfectly.

I agree it's pricey, but the result is stellar. Completely changed the look of my DS/B. It's much "meaner" looking now. And ABSOLUTELY no loss of light emission. Cool thing too is that the lights almost appear like LEDs behind the tint. Very slick.

Ryan,

I think that looks great with the tint! Especially with the DS/BK. I (personally) think it would look even better if you did the Rear Light Mod as well!

It does look sweet. The tint goes on the inside, yes? It won't be the first or last time I pay a little much for a cool part. thank you,

The tint is applied to the exterior, not the interior.

And I have done the taillight mod...but no one was in the car with their foot on the brake, so you can't see it in the picture.

I thought the center brake light was illuminated in that picture, which made me think that you had somehow wedged the brake pedal so the brake lights were on - I guess that is just the natural light dispersion of the lens that gives it that appearance.

Right, then. Good Show! Carry on!

It's not going to come off unless you pick at it, after getting it hot and pulling really hard. Again, it's the same material as is used for the clear bras. Those don't come off in the elements.

Here is the thread discussion about re-wiring the rear lights.

Here is a pic of the end result (from same thread, and thanks to SarcuxKSU):

The tinted lights look good on the Silver. The website shows them on a Red. Anybody have pictures on another color? Like MAybe EB/W ?

EB/W w/tinted taillights

It's a little movie clip from MINI-Madness for their exhaust, but you can see George's tinted tails. Not the best, but the best I could do.

Dave,

Did you end up with a lot of bubbles when you installed your film?

I've got a couple, which I air'd our with a needle, but there are one or two that still won't go down. Do these small imperfections go down once exposed to heat (e.g. expansion)?

The top lights are used as Rear Fog Lights in Europe. They are disabled here in the US. There has been much heated discussion (and even a petition against MINIUSA) about these lights being disabled.

From the factory those upper lights do nothing.

Thus, the point of the mod is to make them useful.

Ya, the slight imperfections go away after the car's been in the sun for a bit.

As for installation, it's probablly a 2 out of 5 stars. Not difficult, just a pain. Apply to the center first, with a vertical stripe, then fan out to the sides.
