I haven't installed them, but I passed one that had them installed. They were very cool.

I have been considering this as well. I haven't done it yet, because, like your MINI, mine is silver and black and I wasn't sure how the shadow stripes would look with a black roof.....

I am impatient AND cheap! I went ahead and ordered vinyl striping from a local sign shop cut to match the Rogue width. I wasn't sure how the Shadow stripes would look and I wanted a subtle look similar to the Shadow type so I matched a sample called "Pewter" which is just a shade darker. I know they are not Shadow but the effect should be close? I will get them today for about $30.00 total!!! When I get them installed (maybe this weekend) I will post a pic. My MCS is PS with a Black roof.

Minifinn- Thanks for your post. I would be really interested in seeing what the "pewter" stripes look like. If they look good, maybe I will order through whoever you used. Where do you live?

Thanks again.

I installed the Shadow stripes on my pure silver and black mini last week. I don't have any pictures right now but I will take one and post tonight when I get home from work. They look fantastic though! Worth every penny and more!!!

I have a friend who might be ordering an S in all Pure Silver. I've seen a few pics...some of a DS with shadow stripes and some of an all IB with white "viper stripes." (maybe on MINI2) Anyway it'll take some more research to re-find these. I want my friend to see these as they looks absolutely fantastic. Seriously, I would definitely consider getting a single body color if it involved these kind of stripes. They look especially cool on the back side as they continue down around the licence plate area. If I find anything I'll let you know, but you may beat me to some pics as my "searching time" is limited.

MiniNV - Thanks for posting. I would appreciate it if you did post a picture when you get a spare moment or two. Before I spend the money it would be great see how they look.

I posted some pics in the members gallery page 132. These stripes are NOT Rogue stripes but vinyl striping I purchased at a local sign shop. Any sign shop dealing in vinyl striping can get this stuff. My total bill was $28.00 for about 10 feet of 14" material pre-cut into two-7" widths. The shop gave me an applicator squeegee for free. I did the install and final trimming myself. I never did it before and it only took about 3 hours. The metallic striping material was called "pewter" and is just a shade off of the Pure Silver.

You guys/gals can do this! It's not that hard. They have every color of the rainbow. The only limit is your imagination. Good Luck

You sure did a great job. Looks like a seasoned pro did the install.

It looks like it would be really hard to get the nice flowing curve around the bonnet scoop. Did you use a razor blade (if so, how do you avoid cutting into the paint) ?

Also, did you partially apply the stripe on the hood, then slowly work your way around the areas that you needed to cut?

And one last question, did you use some type of wetting agent to allow you to position the stripes and then squeegee out the solution?

Thanks for any and all help,
JS

That Looks Fantastic!

I've seen several Vinyl shops around do similar installs on all sorts of cars.... and it IS amazingly cheap. They can cut vinyls into any design you can imagine also.

Budget Customization/Individualizations are always fun and good!

I suggest you start with the small pieces first. I used a sheet of paper cut to the width of my stripe to make a template or pattern. I traced the curve of the hood scoop with a crayon shading the edge. I cut my template, checked it again and transfered the pattern to the vinyl leaving the straight edge long which I cut on the car. Trial and error mostly. You get better with each piece. I would start in the back of the car and leave the front scoop area for last.

I used liberal amounts of wetting agent (a few drops of Simple Green in a full spray bottle of clean water)

Spray the car surface, the sticky side of the vinyl, then the top of the vinyl so the squeegee slides better. Take you time on the air bubbles. If you goof simply pull off carefullyand start over. Buy extra material.

I only trimmed the straight edges on the car using a sharp hobbie knife cutting carefully 90 degrees to the edge of the boot or bonnet lid. DO NOT CUT PAINTED SURFACE.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, Minifinn. I think I'll buy some vinyl and practice on my kid's Power Wheel vehicle.

See ya,

Sorry this took so long. I finally got a chance to clean my car so it would look some what presentable. These are the Rogue shadow stripes. The picture was taken in a dark apartment building garage, so it pretty much sucks. I'll try to get a better picture tomorrow Hope this helps in the mean time.

OK that didn't work. If someone has the time, can you please tell me how to insert a picture into a reply?

Wow, that is very subtle on the pure silver. Is it more noticeable in the sun when the paint is reflective?

See ya,

Thanks for the picture. Did you install the stripes yourself, and if so, how difficult was it? I've seen other pictures of them on your color car in the light of day, and they look terrific.

Boy, those straight stripes look a heck ova lot better than the "v" shaped stripes from the factory. Looks like I might have to take my stripes off when my MINI arrives!

Yes it is much more noticable in the sunlight. I tried to get a picture of them in the sunlight today but by the time I got home from work it was too dark. I'll take another picture tomorrow and post it.

Yea I did install them myself. The instructions that come from Rogue are very good. The stripes come cut in 7 parts. 3 for the hood.(Incase you screw up) 2 for above the trunk release and 2 for below it. I used some dish washing soap in a spray bottle w/water. I sprayed the area on the car and the back of the stripe then placed the stripes on the car and squeeged out the water with the tool provided. One piece of advice, make sure it is somewhat warm outside or the car is in the sun. I applied mine in my garage when it was about 35 degrees outside. Even with a heat gun it was hard to get the stripes to dry in place with it being that cold outside. I would suggest starting with the smaller pieces in the rear of the car. That way you'll have the hang of it by the time you get to the larger pieces in the front. Also take a piece of rope so you can tie the boot about half way open so the area your trying to work on is horizontal. All in all it took me about three hours to install all six pieces. One last thing I would suggest is making the gap between the two stripes the same width as the Mini emblem. Cutiing out notches for the corners of these is a pain in the a@#! It's a little bit wider than what rogue recommends, but hey, isn't that why we do these mods.? To make are cars different from the rest? Happy motoring!
