Gauge Install Question

I have done a few searches and would like to ask a few questions that i can not seem to find. I am installing a boost gauge in my 05 MCS and would like to know where i go about removing the tach piece to mount the cup on the steering colum? Do i just take the two torx screws out and the whole piece comes right off? Is there room underneath that will allow me to attach the mounting bracket? Also where did you guys run the vacuum line for the boost gauge on the steering colum? I do not know where you guys route the tubing to allow it under the dash and into the firewall.

Thanks,

Garrett

Dunno for sure about the 05, but if it's the same as my 04 that's it (IIRC). Take out the Torx screws and the tach just lifts off, more or less. There's a connector under it that will release if squeezed the right way. The gauge pod I used attaches to the back of the tach, not the bottom. I suspect, but don't know for a fact, that's the common way to mount the pod.

I ran the vacuum tube through an existing grommet on the firewall that a bundle of electical cables passes through. I fished a wire coat hanger through from the inside, under the dash, duct taped the vacuum tube to it and pulled the tube back through to the inside. From there it was a matter of running it up the top of the steering column and tie-wrapping it to the wire bundle that goes to the tach to keep it from flopping around and getting into mischief.

Others will have handled it differently and will probably tell you how they did it. It's not a difficult install, taken step by step. And it's fun to watch the gauge needle swing.

Anyone else have any input on what they have done or any tips? When you take the tach off does the top plastic piece around the steering colum come off as well?

Yes that plastic piece comes off. You do not have much room to work with at all. I ran my boost line through the firewall on the driver's side towards the top through the gromet. It goes close to where the steering column is, so it's close to where you need to run it for the gauge.

How much room is under that plastic piece? Will i be able to put bolts under that plastic piece to attach that mount? What my question is for the tubing, I know where to run it into the firewall. What i want to know is where did you guys run the tubing when it came to the steering colum?
