I am very interested in getting the MINI alarm system for my soon to be delivered MCS. The dealer is quoting $375 for the unit and an addition $300 for 3 hours labor to install.

Has anyone heard pricing and installation figures from other dealers?

I'll call my dealer tomorrow and ask. Now is this alarm that your dealer quoted you an alarm that will work with your remote on your MINI's key? Last time I called the dealer they said that MINI didn't have an alarm that could be programmed to work the remote on the key.

That would be the official MINI alarm system. The car is already wired for it and after a reprogram, it is supposed to work with the keyless system

If I were you, I would buy a remote starter/alarm combo. You can get them everywhere online, including ebay (new ones) plus at local shops. A good one ranges from 150 to 200 bucks plus install. A lot cheaper and most of the good ones have lifetime warrenties. Plus if you see someone staring into your MINI, just start it up and scare the crap out of them

That's a great plan and cheaper too but the MINI alarm means one key/remote and you get that way cool red light on the end of the stalk.

Motor on

I actually had my local alarm guy wire into my MCS system and I only need to use the one stock remote on the key to arm/disarm. If you can find an alarm guy that likes a challenge, it can be done. He only charged me $175 for the install, and I can now rest assured that at least an alarm will sound if the bad guys mess with my Mini.

Regards,
Stephan

I've forgotten off the top of my head, but I thought it was about $500 TOTAL for the alarm (parts and labor).

>>Yes, that price does include the underbody flame throwers in addition to the driver's side Smith & Wesson mount.

If you decide on the OEM alarm for the MCS, buy it from a place like Classic Mini at a discount and install it yourself. It certainly too me less than an hour and most of my time was taken trying to peel some black tape off of one of the connectors. The install does not require much of anything in terms of expertise. Everything is prewired.

$675 total, installed, is a holdup price for the official alarm. My dealer installed it for $457.

Install it yourself - it's really quite easy.

Just over $300 shipped from Brian at Classic, plus whatever your dealer charges to activate it. Mine quoted me .5 hours labor on the phone, but when I had them do it along with an oil change, they didn't charge me for it at all.

I also bought my alarm from Classic and installed it myself. Very simple. My dealer charged me $40 to reprogram.

Same here. I bought the OEM alarm from Classic for $308 and installed it in about 1.5 hours. Took it to my dealer and they charged me $50 for programming the alarm. Better than the $695 quoted for dealer supplied and installed. Save some bucks and do it yourself.
