Just wonder how to determine where the location on a Mini (or a car) to install the lights is ricey, and where is not. I guess around the OEM driving light area and the lower grill area are not ricey, right? Any photo of a Mini has lights that looks ricey?
Not trying to put up a war or challenge anyone here, just to understand what people think is ricey, which I think is really subjective.

You are right, it is subjective (IMHO). I want to do a driving light mod, but I'm on the fence with how the standard MINI type lights look.
I like how my MINI has clean lines without any protrusions disrupting the body flow. That's why I'm looking into a light kit mod that has a more integrated look. I also like the Alta Rally lights, but they seem a bit big.

Not to mention that driving lights should generally be mounted at or above the level of the main lights - it's normally the fogs that are mounted low. You'll lose some projection range mounting that low - and if you angle them up to improve the throw, you'll blind oncoming drivers.
Just be careful - don't want to give MINI drivers a bad name. . .

I have the Alta light bar on my MINI in the location that he Photoshopped (not the best pic to see the light bar & I need to paint the covers black so they are a bit more subtle and blend in with the car):
These are rally lights more so than driving lights. These suckers light up the night like you wouldn't believe and you should NEVER have them on when there are any other cars around unless they are behind you. They don't vibrate at all and we had no issues with high temperatures from any reduced air flow after running very hard on the Dragon or any other high performance driving as of yet. The Alta bar was a bit pricey, but for how firmly it mounts and it's general rigidity, we think it was worth it

The closer to the road you mount driving lights three things happen. The shadowing effect becomes worse, you lose range on the lights, and they're more prone to getting hit by rocks and such. That's why higher is better when you're talking about driving lights.
Fogs are an entirely different matter. They need to be as low as possible because of the way they're designed to operate.
Of course, if you're just after aesthetics, and aren't looking for optimal performance, it doesn't much matter.
