Interior/Exterior Rear Seat Delete Kit? Interested?

rear seat removal kit? Great idea!
Yup, I'd like to see what you come up with and how well it can be intergrated into the car so it doesn't look "hacked". Don't expect you to compromise your market position but can you post a pic or two of your system for the Mustang so we can get a feel for how it might look in the MINI and maybe estimate a range for your retail price?...........mgg..........(MTR ON)

But I'll share the details ...
- Drops 35-36 pounds from the Mini overall.
- Has a nice hinged design that lifts up to reveal adequate HIDDEN storage space
- Insulated sound deadening on underside will be optional
- Initial prototype is covered in color matching padded vinyl (but may resort to a carpet covering if that turns out to be a better flow with the interior)
- Tie down hooks on the top of the panel for strapping down luggage, tires, groceries, etc (with small bungees)
- Strong enough to hold large animals (this is where carpet is required over vinyl due to claw puncturing vinyl)
- Bolts in using factory holes, no drilling or modification to the car itself.
I'll update again when I have a more completed prototype.

I would be very interested as well. I have a few requirements however:
1-It must be able to support my weight (160lbs) if I were to crawl in back there to shift loads. Metal framework supporting 1/4" MDF board. I'll take the added weight for extra functionallity. ABS probably won't work as my knees would punch through.
2-Matching carpeting.
3-Seat belt access holes for Schrothe harnesses.
4-Optional cubby hole access hatches for storing misc. items beneath.

I'm right with Misfit Toy on the requirements. The carpet would need to be close to factory spec and I would for one would spend more money for a premium version if it incorporated some of his suggestions. Also a spot for securing or placing a space saver tire would be a nice touch.

Tom

The ABS is extremely strong. I sat on it and it supported my weight fine (175) due to the careful placement of support bends to strengthen it. It flexs slightly in the middle but you CAN'T break it. It's made to flex when needed.
MDF is brittle, non-moisture resistant, stinky, and heavy. Not good for a high quality product to sell to the masses. But it makes one helluva speaker box.
Actual production will not take that long. It's working the kinks out of the design and designating time to do just that. But once I've got it bulletproof, production will start in about 2 wks from that date. I may even start pre-orders (first come first serve) when it gets close. (of course there will be photos by then)

I think you should keep it simple and light. Steel supports, hidden compartments etc., just add to the weight and complexity. I thought the idea was to remove the seats to save some weight, and simplify the rear area. Count me in for a light, simple ABS solution with access to the rear seatbelt mounting points for a Schroth harness. Carpet would help keep stuff from sliding around on slick ABS.

Im one of the guys that have removed the seats and made the platforms. Since i really havent worked with aluminum or CF. I've gone the wood and carpet way. I've got a total of 3 Platforms so far. 1 made from Ribbed 1/2 plywood and carpet for hauling heavy loads. Tires, tools, etc.. to race and show events. 1 made from1/4 ply ribbed for some strength also carpeted with Fake NOS bottle, XboX, Tv's and other misc stuff for car show only. Last one is for racing. 1/8 peg board with checkerboard design and the BIG S just like my roof. Also have slots to allow seat belt attachments. Switching between any of the boards only takes minutes plus the front board that covers were seats is also uses and a trunk lid for extra storage underneith it. Back one is used for AMPS, Caps, and other AV stuff
For the sound If you Dynamatt (tm) or what ever else you want to use . The back Hatch of the car it will kill the sound more than any other area of the car.
PS ribs are 1/2" aluminum L channels running lenght of the platform for strength
