PPG window install in SF Bay Area

I got a new PPG window installed in the Chicken Coop over the weekend. It was installed by Total Eclipse Auto Spa of Marin. The total cost was $338. Overall, I had a very positive experience. I called for a Saturday appointment and they fit me right in. Total eclipse is right next door to a BMW dealership and I believe they do window installs for them, so I was confident that they would do the job right. The first place I had install a new windshield in my car (safelite auto glass) did not use the correct adhesive and the front pillar came off about a month later. I trust that won't happen this time. Everyone at Total Eclipse was professional and courteous. They car was finished when they said it would be. They need a total of at least three hours for the install so the adhesive can set properly before you go back on the road.

Total eclipse is located in San Rafeal, just across the Richmond/San Rafeal bridge. It is a 45 minute drive from where I live (Union City) so my husband followed me up in his car and we drove over to Muir Woods (20 minutes away) to hike while the window was bein installed.

I would definitely reccommend Total Eclipse to anyone in the Bay Area looking to get a PPG windshield installed.

Windshield Question

Thanks for the info. I'm on my second rock chip (in five weeks!) on my windshield. Unfortunately this second chip is noticeable. (Even though they are both filled in). My question is, do you think the PPG windshield is going to stand up to rocks better than stock?

Thanks,

Mario G.

PPG should be better than OEM

From what I've read on this website, the PPG should hold up better. It won't eliminate the fact that the windshield is more vertical than most. But the glass itself is supposed to be thicker and more resistant to cracking. I know that one previous post (do a search) mentioned that his PPG windshield did have a lot of pits in it after some period of time. My first replacement windshield was OEM and was cracked within 2 months.
