I apologize if this has been addressed before, I imagine it has.
Will an aftermarket shift **** with "set screws" fit the "pop off" mini shift lever? Or does it have to be a "pop off" aftermarket **** as well?

What a knobby question.

I'd imagine it would have to be of the pop-off variety as well.

http://www.whalenshiftmachine.com/index.cfm This link is the latest in push-on AM ****.

After reading the different postings on "shift *****", issues to consider are (1) using an all-metal **** in the winter (heat sink) and (2) the extra weight (4x the OEM ****) which is considered good by some.

Also, saw a posting by somebody doing a private threading of the MINI lever to accept threaded AM *****. I'd stay with the push-on MINI type.

I plan to get one, would prefer a leather-covered shift **** though. I'll wait until it comes on the AM.

The plastic extension pressed over the shift lever can be removed after you pop off the **** by cracking and removing the plastic pieces with a pliers. Any **** can be used then. It will be far more securely installed than the original ****. Be brave. I hate to crack and break something on my car, but it's no biggy. The boot can kind of be tucked or inverted at the top to accommodate the slightly lower new ****. Check back here if you get into a jam.

You certainly can use a setscrew type aftermarket ****, and you don't need to destroy the plastic lever extension. I installed a MONO F16 **** on my 2003 MC, and it works perfectly.
I must add that I am considering breaking off the plastic extension to lower the ****, as the MOMO is somewhat taller than the stock ****.

Thewris,

Good news on the set screw AM ****. First I've heard of it. Do you have link for MONO F16 ****? Love to see a pic.

SMKKVK,

It's actually MOMO shift ****, I mistyped it in my previous message.

I bought mine online at LTB Motorsports - see 'em at http://www.ltbmotorsport.com/shiftknob.html

I chose the F16 Silver - the black leather and matte silver match my interior. I little pricey at $79.90, but LTB had the best prices I found, some places had it for a LOT more $
I'm very pleased with both the look and feel of the new ****.

Thanks for the link..
I'm thinking The MOMO "Sphere color" with the blue stripe might look good with my Lapis Blue leather.
And you say it should fit, right? I gues I'll check it out..
