Interior/Exterior Union Jack on a Black Roof
Just curious. Does the OEM Union Jack Roof Decal come with the white parts, or is the white part of the flag provided by the white roof?
Then, does anybody know (CooperFlags.com?) of a Union Jack Roof Decal which WILL work on a Black roof?

I saw the Cooper Flags Union Jack in person over the weekend. The flag extends all the way to the edges of the roof (looks a lot better than the MINI flag IMO), and the white parts are all there, so you could completely cover your black roof and have the flag look correct.
Carvogue.com is a great decal site! Especially for roof graphics!! From what you have mentioned about the flag you would like to get, i am gathering that you want to replace the white parts of the flag with black?? If that is the case Carvogue I KNOW for a fact will do this for you! I have already e-mailed them about the same thing! If it is a white flag on the black roof that you want they can help ya with that too! I suggest taking a look around their site! They've got a bunch of stuff & they can make custom decals for you too!
Anyway, as for your questions about whether the white is replaced by the white on the roof.... I believe all the parts that wouldn't be needed for the roof are excluded... needless to say, that all depends on the color of your roof! Thus if you have a black roof and you want the white flag, then the whole decal will include the white. Whereas if you have a white roof already they will most likely exclude most (if not all) of the white portions from the flag!hope this is of some help!
Cheers!
Dave

If anyone has put the Union Jack on a Pure Silver/Pure Silver, I would love to see that! I was considering doing that OR having a Pure Silver/Black chex flag.
I am SO loving the all-Pure Silver, though....hmmmm....these decor decisions are tough!
Both CMINIGO and I got our flags from CarVogue. I have a white roof and I had the flag done in white, light silver and dark silver. The light silver replaced the red and the dark silver replaced the blue. There is no decal on the white part except the sunroof. It looks awesome. Now CMINIGO's looks even better, the guy who put her's on extended the flag so it covered the entire top. She has MINI with a black roof, check it out. The owner of Cooper Flags and I have been conversing and he is willing to try about anything, and like DaveinDenver I saw one of his flags on one of the MINI5280.org's car. It looks really good as well.
FraserBonnet,
I have the first pre-production CooperFlag in the country. I can say that the materials are top notch. If you can wait for a week or two, I would work with Matt at Cooperflags. He will design what you need, and because he is in the US (Carvogue is in the UK) he has much more reasonable prices.
I saw the Carvogue at the MINIware party on Friday, and honestly I think the Cooperflag is nicer. You can also choose whether or not you want it perforated I believe (but the non-perforated does block all views unless the roof is open).
Contact Matt direclty at info@cooperflags.com and let him know I sent you there, as we have been discussing these very issues, so he knows where you got the ideas from.
Good luck!

Thanks for all the positive press
Our graphics will work on any color roof. Like Randy mentions in his post, you could have a black roof and get a white/red/blue UJ and no one would know the true color of your roof. (Unless the looked at your mirrors). We are about to send out a white & red-checkered pattern to cover a black roof.
For those of you with sunroofs you have two options. 1) Be like Dave and get a solid design and cut it to fit over the sunroof. This allows minimal light in and keeps you from seeing out. 2) go with the perforated design that allows sunlight in and acts like a second layer of tint from the inside. We will have this second option ready to ship by the second week in January and are taking pre-orders now.
The nice part about using 3M products is there is no mixing of material. What I mean by that is the same 3M material that is used on the sunroof is used on the roof. We are not combining vinyl and window film. This allows for a much smoother transition of colors from the roof to the glass.
I hope this helps with some questions and feel free to hit me with anything I may have missed.

It's RANDY. Dave wants one, but darnit I spent the labor time getting that sunroof application to work, and I want the props.
Matt, you're working on providing a third option for the sunroof as well, right? The precut graphic for the sunroof that is solid instead of perforated.
I will be installing the production model of the sunroof graphic with perforations from Cooperflags. I currently have the "preproduction" model that was cut to fit the sunroof. It really looks great going all the way to the edges. As soon as the production graphic is installed, I'll post pics of both outside shots and shots through the closed roof to get an idea of how it turns out.
I do not believe there really is a benefit to having the full decal as opposed to the perforated!! In my opinion, the perforated is better because from the top you can't really tell that it has holes in it but from inside you can still see through the sunroof! Why have a sun roof if you're going to cover it with a decal?? Ya know?? If you don't like the perforations, that's 800 bux you could waste(according to the build your own mini area the sun roof costs $800 to add on).... To me putting a decal that completely blocks the view is a waste of a good sunroof!! A gentleman by the name of Steve Ray posted some pictures of his UJ roof w/ perforations (inside & out) i thought i'd post them here (for reference they are Steve Ray's from Mini2!)
This first one is an external view of the decal! You can see that the area over the sunroof is a bit lighter than the rest of the decal, but i think it still looks good!!
And here's the internal view! Actually looking through the sunroof with the perforated decal!! You can see clearly through to see the blue sky above!

Easy Dave!
The reason for the solid vs. the perforated would become clear if you had seen the Carvogue in person. There is a definite noticable difference from the roof to the sunroof colors.
Matt at Cooperflags has addressed this matter by using 3M material for the entire roof, glass and all. As I'm a skeptic, I will post absolutely honest assesment on the looks of this set up.
I currently have the solid graphic on my sunroof car. It looks great! and that's why you would want to do it. It doesn't keep you from opening the sunroof
The perforated graphic should be on the car in mid-January, so I'll post it when I get it.
For now, take a look at this and compare it to the photos of the Carvogue.

I understand that people like it however they like it! Some like the regular decal, some like perforated. It's no big deal! But personally i like the perforated! They both look great, but if i'm going to have the extra $$ tacked on for a sunroof, i want to be able to look up and see out of it without having to open it up! And to me, the perforated ones i've seen don't look that much different (in some cases they don't look different at all) and you can see through them from the inside! It's like the best of both worlds!
In any case, I look forward to seeing your pictures! That roof graphic looks great!
cheers!

I should have put a
next to the Easy Dave!
No problemo, i Just saw all those !!! and thought you might be yelling
I saw the Carvogue sunroof application at the MINI5280 Alpine Rally drive and at the MINI-Motorsport party, and thought the graphic definitely lost something on the glass.
Cooperflags has taken a totally different approach, so I will try it out with the perforations - but even so, I like the Cooperflags decal better because of the extension all the way to the edges. Cooperflags offers it with the roof color border or full roof coverage.

Randy did the install on his own. If you are handy it's not too hard, but I would suggest doing it with a friend. Most sign or tint shops familiar with the 3M products will do an install for under $100.00.
As a personal suggestion - if you have the install done by a sign/tint shop negotiate the removal at the same time. Some shops will throw in the removal cost at no extra charge. This is just in case you need to sell your MINI and the new owner is not hot for your design or you decide after a year that you want something new.

Thanks Otto!! I think it looks really good too. I'm very happy with the quality of the material Cooperflags uses. I now carry the full line of Cooperflags, and as those of you familiar with MINI-Motorsport know, I only carry what I've tried and had success with. The sunroof application will be out be the middle of January, so I'll be redoing the car to be able to display that application in the Denver area for people interested. I'll also do an install with pics of the process, the finished product outside, and the view through the closed sunroof.

The pics just don't show the accurate comparison. I can't wait for the CooperFlags version to get here! Good point about the "sunroof" Dave. That's exactly what I have now, a sunroof as opposed to a moonroof.
Besides, it's still cool to look through the sunroof and see the UJ!

yeah, I like the silver union jack too. That would look great on pure silver. Although I still like the look of Pure Silver with the Pure Silver roof a lot too. Hard choice.
Oh, just my bias, but I prefer the flag to go all the way to the edges of the roof without the white border. If you look at the Cooper Flags U.J., that's the way it is. I believe Carvogue will do this too (see above for my reservations about the contrasting roof/sunroof color though).

My Mini has the white edges, doesn't look bad...
But my NEW Mini will be completely overboard, I'm just gonna cover the whole freakin' thing with one giant metallic Union Jack. 'Cos I'm special, and I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooove to brag, 'cos I'm cool.
... just let me enjoy my own little world here...
