I'm planning a mod here and I've done a search but can't seem to locate any info... How easily (or hard) do the toggle switch guards come out? I'm not doing chrome, but something else... I don't just want to tear into it....

Excuse the newbie question. Any info would be appreciated.

 

It's easy, they just snap in (and out). You have to take off the uprights to get to the screws that hold the switch panel in place, and to get the uprights off, you have to remove the console around the shifter (almost, you just have to take all of the fasteners out and raise it). It's not too bad, the hardest part is getting the mirror/seat heater switch panel out so you can get to the fasteners underneath it. Look for a how-to on shifter boot replacement, it will show you how to get the ring at the bottom of the boot loose (it snaps out). Then you can get your fingers underneath the switch panel to push up on it while you pry it from above. After that, it's easy to get all of the screws out. if you still have trouble, do a google search for mini cooper toggle and you'll find a blog or two that shows how to get things apart. Hope this helps.
