Built by Bones Roll bar install ...

Just fitted the Built By Bones roll bar today, some photos below. I'll yank it out today and do the paint and should have it in by the end of the week.

I just wanted to say that working with Grant and Nick, of Built by Bones, has been a first rate great experience. I had some fitment issues and they were all over it, making sure I ended up with the top notch product they produce.

No cutting required at all on the bars. The bar is custom fit to the Mini at their shop. Just need to cut the carpet to bolt down the hoop and also drill two 1.5" holes into the side panels where the supports enter the wheel well compartments.

The seats stay in because I sometimes need them to transport the second kid. This is what's so nice about this roll bar, is that the rear seats can be folded up and down and used. The horizontal and diagonal bars are removable for family use. I will remove the rear seats on track days.

Nick and Grant don't have a web site as they do their business over eBay.

Here is the LINK.
I'd recommend emailing them directly and work from there.

Is this a legal (SCCA) roll bar or just a "show bar"?

Actually I'm not sure that this one is, even with the extra horizontal and diagonal bars. I'm not doing any SCCA with this car at this time so it's only in for my safety for track days and auto-x. I am installing shell type seats and I have four point harness so this rollbar is there for a reason and not just for show. Adding 60 lbs to my car is not something I wanted to do for show

Built-By-Bones DOES offer SCCA legal bars, so do talk with them if that's what you are looking for.

Thanks Sid.

I have to tell ya, not all Minis are cookie cutter identical.

The sportbar I first received just didn’t fit right as the rear seats did not clear the rear braces and the base plate angles were off a bit. Nick and Grant were excellent in getting me trough this issue. As soon as they heard I was having trouble they called me direct and we went through some steps. They asked for some photos and dimensions of clearance issues and ended up building me a complete new set up. I sent them back some of the bars and they covered absolutely every expense of doing all of this. I still have the main hoop if anyone is interested

The new bar was perfect and went in in under an hour. It weighs in at around 60 lbs which is the only negative.

The SCCA legal bars do not allow the rear seats to be folded down. The rear braces are straight, rather than bent. It also depends which SCCA series you intend running in. Some allow bolt in bars, others do not. Solo, Trials and Showroom Stock classes allow bolt in. World Challenge bars must be welded.

None of our bars are "show bars".

Does anyone know what bars are legal for NASA and SCCA in the new Time Trials classes they have? I know you don't need a full cage. Just wondering if the cage that Onasled has is legal. Autopower has a similar one. Can anyone help? Thanks

newsbe49, NASA does not require a roll bar or cage for time trials. But if you start changing seats to race seats and 5/6 point harness you should have at least a roll bar. There are a lot of threads about this, but if you change your seat and you roll over you could be putting your self in harms way.

I have a Autopower bolt in cage with door bars. Very well built, this is a NASA legal cage and also SCCA for wheel 2 wheel racing. Their roll bars are nicely done as well.
