Interior/Exterior OEM Alarm in a Cabrio
OEM Alarm in a Cabrio
Hi all,
We're soon to be buyers of a S Cabrio. Does anybody know about the install of the OEM alarm in a Cabrio? I've read about the easy install in the coupes but without the roof, where does the motion sensor go. Is the install doable by the average Joe (Rick in this case).
Thanks,
Rick

You can look at the installation instructions: http://motoringfile.com/files/2005_M...rm_Install.PDF and judge how comfortable you are with the procedure. The car is prewired and the installation should be fairly easy. For someone new to MINI, it is likely that much of the installation time would be spent getting familiar and comfortable with how interior trim panels and seats are removed. That was the case for me when I installed the OEM rear view camera.
I've had my convertible three months, and still haven't decided whether to get the alarm. I never leave anything valuable or even anything at all visible in the car, and the locations where I normally park are relatively safe. I figure that when someone breaks into a convertible, the biggest problem would be that the roof gets slashed, and it would already be done before the alarm goes off. I suppose the blinking light would be a deterrent to having the roof slashed or window broken, but it is a rather large investment in money and labor just for a blinking light.
