You do have to drill 2 holes in the back of your tach. but it works great! If anyone is interested post here and Ill write up a DIY, (I did widen the holes a little to accept the bolts on the metal mount arm, see pics
You'll need Drill / Drill bit 2 short bolts, washers, nuts (I used allen key bolts and lock nutz) Torx bit (to remove gauge) t25?

Hey DiscoDave, just make sure you get the F56 (3 gen) mount NOTthe R56 (2nd gen)
I see the problem now. I have the speedo and the tach on the column. The one I got is basically the same are yours. With my set up it pushes the mount too far over in front of the hump in the dash.

I originally got it for my TomTom but, contacted them and they pointed me to the magnet portion to add on. Looks like it belongs and it very solid. LOVE it!
Since this thread was revived, I'm also looking for a mount for my daughter's R52S. This looks like it's similar to the one in the first post, but it's specific to the 1st-Gen Mini's and wouldn't require drilling into the tach housing.
I bought the parts and yesterday my daughter and I installed that phone mount in her Mini. I used an Ainope phone holder instead of the one they included. I have these in all my vehicles and have found them to be the most convenient and secure a phone in the car - just drop it in and go!
I did decide to use different screws than the ones that came with the mount to attach it to the tachometer housing. I have jars of extra screws (I use plastic peanut butter jars, so that they don't break if it's knocked onto the floor) and I found a couple matching ones that would do the trick, once I shortened them. I added washers under the heads of the screws, and I also put a washer on top of the spacer they provided with the mount so that the mount clears the rounded back of the tachometer housing without being bent/stressed as the screws are tightened down.
The tachometer is removed from the steering column by removing 2 T25 torx screws at the base.
Here is the back of the tachometer housing before installing the mount.
I chose a longer screw than the one provided with the mount. The one they provided only seemed to provide a turn or turn-and-a-half of "bite" for the threads.
Here is the mount attached to the tachometer housing.
Since I was using an Ainope phone mount, instead, I needed a 17mm (Garmin-type) of ball mount to attach it. Here I took the ball off of a Panavise 767-GR@ and attached it to the mount frame.
And this is the installed solution.
Here is the solution holding my vintage iPod Touch 3rd Gen
That’s a nice clean install. Of course he did it on the pre FL downtubes, which pull right out. FL requires removing the center console. But I believe you can get enough room without removing them.
After using it a few times, my daughter decided to try flipping the mount to have the phone to the left of the steering wheel. Sitting to the right of the steering wheel, she thought it affected here sightlines in that direction too much. So, she and I went up to the shop garage last night and switched it around. We'll see what she thinks after a few drives with it this way
We have the cupholder, so that spot isn't available - but that's a good place for it, for sure.
Probably could be flipped, but I’m looking for the cup holder than sits lower on the down tube. I have found having the smaller cup holders keeps the wife from walking around with 40 oz of whatever. Still haven’t found a coffee cup that fits them, so saves that sticky messy from car. 16 oz can fit just fine, all I need for four hours, not trying to stop every hour.
