yakima roof rack - tweaking tower placement

I just put on my roof rack today and I have a question. Could the rear towers be scooted inward about 1/2" so that the sunroof will open fully? The sunroof will go into the vent position fine but comes about 1/10" from opening fully. My observation is that if the rear towers were scooted inward the cross bar would raise and that the sunroof would open completely. I was checking on Yakima's site and I saw a mention about the wind fairings that advises not to move the tower placement "as doing so can make rack the unsafe". I'm no lawyer but the words "can" and "will" mean two different things. Has anyone tweaked the placement of the towers? The last thing in the world I want is to damage my beloved bike or car.
What about tweaking the placement of the cross bars?

Also, how much does the wind fairing reduce wind noise? Yak's site says "reduces wind noise up to 85%". Again, I'm no lawyer but "up to 85%" to me sounds like it may be quite a bit lower. I drove Mom to dinner tonight and when we hit the highway it sounded like the windows were going to bblow out. I had to keep it around 52mph so we could still talk.

I jsut went outside to do some hypothisizing (sp?) and the only downside I can come up with is that if the towers are closer together then the clips will make contact at a different angle. I wonder if the angle were somehow bent to stay consistent (again, sp?) would that make the adjustment okay?

Mine clears, barely. Instead of moving the towers inward, why not just move the rear bar (or both) slightly forward? Should accomplish the same goal.

elbee, The fairing works great. I'm real happy with mine, it's much quieter!
