Installed Driving lights

I installed a pair of driving lights on my R50 the other day. The car looks great with a pair of Hella 500s mounted on to factory light brackets. They work great and while they do bounce a bit because the Hellas are heavier than the Mini lights you don't notice it while driving. And it looks so proper with a pair of lights.

Please ignore my ugly hood. The paint is completely shot and needs to be resprayed at some point.

I'm in total agreement, the larger driving lights look so much better on a Mini than the stock ones, even in the stock location.

I like em! I keep thinking about putting some on mine, but still haven't pulled the trigger. Did you wire them in like the OEM setup? or just follow the Hella instructions? where'd you put the switch?

I wired them per hella's instructions such that they can only be on when the high beams are on. The switch is mounted into a storage tray I got from an 2005 or 2006 Cooper which is mounted under the switch panel.

Looks great! I got the standard 500s for mine. I honestly thought they were going to be a bit large for the car but they look perfect once they are on there.

I got PIAA lights on mine and pretty happy with them, they have been on for 3 years and they are holding up strong.

The PIAA lights were my ideal choice but they cost almost 5x as much as the Hellas.

thank you and thank you. i work on MINIs for friends if you need work. i usually only do R53s.

yeah - theyre all of my aux lights are wired to their own relay *a single one* that is a 40amp Morimoto. I have 4 relays for my high and lowbeams. each of them get their own relay for reliability reasons. high and low are 55w HID, hellas are 100w halogens right now, got 75w HID ballasts coming and i'll see if it melts the housings.

I also have a hidden light bar under the tiny middle grille

Resurrecting an old thread here: I have the OEM kit and will be installing the brackets soon; can anyone with the hood mounted lights show me their brackets on the underside? Mine looks like the grille needs to be removed for access (I have the stock grille) and when I checked it the tabs look as though they will break on removal.

Grill doesn't need to be removed to install brackets. And yes, the tabs on the grill royally suck and ill be surprised if individuals got more than 1 use out of them. I ended up just pulling the nuts off and using 3m double sided tape to secure the grill.

or a good aftermarket alternative?

This company in the U.K. has stainless steel brackets on e-bay for about $38 shipped.

My 500s bounce too much for my liking. I am probably going to ditch the hood brackets for some kind of bumper mounted bracket. Here is how the car looks right now:
