looking for a real cheap way to Paint the black trim pieces!

I want to paint the black trim pieces around the car.
I have a DS/W MCS, it will be cool to paint those cheap black plastic looking pieces around the car into silver.
I have ask people around, but it seems very expensive since it needs to be sanded very well.
I decided to try my luck and see if anyone knows a cheaper way to do it!

i think i read somewhere on here that someone took them off themselves, brought them to the shop to be sanded and painted, and then reinstalled them themselves. by doing this, i believe he paid <$500.

otherwise, it cost me ~$1200 to have the body shop do everything.

I had this done on my last MC, extra set of plastic primed-sanded-painted, and it ended up costing at least $1k altogether, plus it took a long time to get done. Someone in our local club had it done without sanding (they just spray it several times and it fills in smooth) which cost less, and looks as good to me.

Can you save money by sanding them yourself as well...i figure if you install/uninstall and sand them down, all you have to pay if for the labor of spraying?

If you're good with painting, you can get some paint mixed here:

www.paintworldinc.com
www.paintscratch.com

both are reputable companies that make factory match paint.
Paintworld is much quicker on turnaround. I think I jotted down
somewhere how I would paint the arches, so run a quick search
and I think you'll find it. It would be the same way for the
bumper trims.

You'll need:

1. Adhesion promotor (autoparts store) 12oz
2. Primer with flex agent 12oz (you might need 2 cans)
3. Base coat 12oz
4. Clear coat 12oz
5. Wet sanding paper (400grit, 1500grit) and sanding block
6. Compound

It takes a lot of pratice to make the finish shiny and glossy like
how the bodyshops do it, so you might want to keep that in
mind before you start.
