That is the Aero grill. If you want that and driving lights, you will have to make you own holes with a dremel or something. I used PIAAs mounting and it is very sturdy.

You'll have to cut a tad of the aero grill even if you buy the OE driving
lights. Cutting the grill took me a while... But if you have the stock
grill, the PIAA's brackets are just as easy to install as the OE one.

Also where can I find that awsome black bonnet grill everyone is sporting.

Props to the dentist, I want me one of those too, one of those ones you see on top of Jeeps, can't beat that vintage rally look!! It may destroy the whole aerodynamic aspect, but, I gotta admit, it would be a mighty intimidating look.

Oh, to rg and hooking up the driving lights up to the fog switch, remember, the fogs go out when the high beams come on (watch the switch, the LED turns off). Just keep that in mind before you tie the driving lights into that switch.

The PIAAs are larger than the OEM rally lights, so those black MINI covers will likely not fit. I have the PIAAs and keep the rock guards on them. They look really sharp against Wanda's all-Jet Black color scheme and the black grille slats. I have to say that the PIAAs have served me VERY well since installing them in April. They are really a necessity for driving the Dragon at night!

Is everyone ordering direct from PIAA (or eBay)? Or can someone recommend a good reseller?

Call Me Lazy

I went ahead and bought OEM lights from eBay tonight for 268.00 Ralph Schomp in Denver. He has some cool Mini stuff. I really like the billit cup holder and sun visor/windshield cover.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7912299696

I looked at the PIAA's and I really wanted to be able to put on the lil MINI black covers.

I figured 268.00 was a killer price although I could have gotten PIAA's a lil cheaper. In the end its "stock" and "Chrome", I think I will wire them up to my fog lights so when I flip the switch I know they are on.

Wish me luck will attempt install this weekend.

Good luck with the install, DSA! You'll love your rally lights! They look great and are really functional! Be sure to take pics and show 'em off!

Dan over at the Pilo might be able to get you a group buy price on the 540's.

I got mine from there for $220 shipped...not sure if he's still offering that price,
but worth a try.

Since no one wants to make a roof-mounted light bar, I'll do what I usually do - make my own. I've been doing a little research and it is actually easier than I thought it would be. A Yakima Half-set, which is a removeable luggage rack bar that mounts on the roof. Some alumawelded tabs on an aluminum bar, and A Hella Optilux remote light switch - no wires or drilling through the car. I could pass a wire out the sunroof, or thread one up the door. All that you really need is a 12 volt power line and ground wire from anywhere. You can turn the lights on and off from 50 feet away! If there is a cigarette lighter socket, I could probably just tap in there. I'll let you know when I get the car how I am doing.

Joe,

Lemme know how that works out, definitely interested in this. And, if I could work the lights up there offa a fob, that would rock. How would you plan on getting power from the sunroof? Just splice into the power there? How would you run the wire from the rack to the roof?

Dying to know, this would be such a unique mod.

My OEM driving lights are chromed steel with very thick glass... very strong and attractive. Had the clear plastic lens cover added over the glass with my invisible bra.... saving the black covers only for long driving trips.

I ordered it on Sunday and had it at my door on Wednesday. Everything was brand new.

Ok guys got the lights today via UPS but since they are dealer install no instructions came with the unit

Can someone one who has hooked up OPM lights post some photos ect. I have no idea where the plugs go ect. It looks like I am suppose to plug them into some kind of socket. What do the mounts mount to where do I cut?

Here I will post photos of my stuff.

YIKES!

Needless to say it is a little confusing.

Okay, I'm convinced the PIAA's are the way to go and I'm about to order a set of 540's off eBay ($200 shipped for the 5430 kit) - just one question left. It looks like the lens has a very distinct bluish tint to it. Is it just the picture, or do they really look that blue and how well does it match up with other color MINI's?

Thanks!

I second this motion.I had them put on 2 years after I bought the car cause I was getting sick and tired of having the cheeseball little round grates coming loose and rattling around inside the bumper(don't even try to get them back in! my hands still look like raw hamburger).Anyway, these oem'd in the bumper below the turn signals aren't cheap, but they look good and work well (and I love the little green light on the new toggle when they're on )

The bulb itself is blue and does make the entire light look blue when looking the right way at the housing. It is not really a big deal to me, though.

From certain angles the bulb does reflect blue. My car is a BRG also and I think the colors go together fine. I also have a euro plate with blue in it. So it all ties in nicely. You will enjoy the super bright white light on dark twistie roads!

Enjoy!

Hella FF200

Would the driving light cover from the dealer fit the Hella FF200. I like that it says Mini on them. Are they street legal to drive with? I would like a driving light that could be used on the open road. 4 lights are better than 2.

Excellent - thanks for the info! I'm assuming everyone has the driving light version and not the fog version.
