Interior/Exterior HK Door Rattle Fix (Simple)
HK Door Rattle Fix (Simple & with Pictures NOW!!!)
Today I fixed my passenger side door rattle using 2" wide 3M Micropore medical tape.

As I have read this is a very common problem with the HK Stereo and speakers. I took the thin tape and cut it into strips about 1/2" wide and 8" long and then made six stacks, four layers thick.
Apply two stacks of tape, on top of each other, along the straight, bottom edge of the door panel below the speaker cover.

Next, place two more stacks of tape on the rounded corner edge.
Finally, place the last two stacks of tape on the straight edge leading up to the top of the door panel.

Here is what the cloth tape looks like on the visible edge of the door. Make sure to just barely roll the edge of the tape over onto the colored part of the door panel. This is a pic of the vertical and curved part of the door panel.

The cloth tape acts as a spacer to push the door panel away from the door frame without rubbing the paint off. It creates just enough tension to hold the door panel tight without allowing it to vibrate against the door frame.
Finally I decided to place short pieces of felt between the speaker grill and the door panel to damen any vibrations that might happen if the speaker grill wasn't applied tightly at the factory.

Have fun blaring the tunes rattle free with this simple fix!!!

Here's the info I used. http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?f...aq_faq_removal. There is a section on door panels.
You really have to pry at first, but the panel does come off with no harm done.

Have any of you just tried wedging something under the corner of the panel? Like fold a business card a few times and squeeze it in there? If it's just the panel hitting the door causing the noise this will prove it.
All these fix pages do the same thing, and I don't see why you even need to remove the panel. I would just pry the panel up a little bit and slide some felt under if the pry test works. If the noise is coming from deeper in the panel, not just the edge, I guess it has to come off. I just haven't seen anyone say they tried this first.
