I'm not sure if the procedure is the same on the 1st gens as it was on my 2nd gen. But its a cake walk. My 2nd gen required the torx screw to be taken out and then its just pulling (gently) the scoop off. its just on with a socket style push pin type of clip system. Putting in the new one was way easy. Push it in and secure with the new phillips head style screw.

I'll take a look at mine, but keep in mind I have a 2nd gen, and IIRC the 2nd gen scoops were smaller.

I do not believe it is smaller. It appears to look bigger is this photo:

AEM makes a nice CAI. I have one on my N14, but I'm using the M7 Ram2 scoop with mine. I also have a MiniFini grill installed to keep the larger bugs and debris out. I like the looks of the notch scoop and would have probably bought one if I had seen them before I scored two different M7 scoops off the forum. I ended up reselling the Vortex for what I payed because I liked the looks of the Ram scoop better. I prefer the quality and construction of the fiberglass M7 over the plastic notch scoop, but is it worth $150 more? Thankfully I didn't have to decide because I got mine for $100 in the forum marketplace.

It doesn't really look like the opening in the scoop is any bigger than the stock scoop...

How is the paint and quality on this scoop? I just ordered a JCW carbon fiber scoop but feel a tad guilty about the price.

the paint is good I believe it's just black plastic, quality is ok, mine tends to warp a tad upwards after high speed runs, however the grille is removed on mine which would stabilize it a bit more. By the way here's a snowless photo of mine

Pics look great. We've sold several as we actually find these fit better than other aftermarket scoops.
Also it is open more than the stock scoop.
We have them for the R53

and for R56+

Sure email any that you think are good. It's always good for customers to see what it will look like installed
